Bruce Willis has been diagnosed with aphasia, a medical condition in which a person loses the ability to speak or communicate, and will be stepping back from his acting career, his family said on Wednesday.

"To Bruce’s amazing supporters, as a family we wanted to share that our beloved Bruce has been experiencing some health issues and has recently been diagnosed with aphasia, which is impacting his cognitive abilities," his family said in a statement. "As a result of this and with much consideration Bruce is stepping away from the career that has meant so much to him."

Aphasia is a condition that happens suddenly after a medical incident like a stroke, or gradually as part of a neurological disorder or injury. Gabby Giffords, a former US representative, was diagnosed with aphasia after she was shot in the head during a mass shooting in 2011. Aphasia limits a person’s ability to express or understand language, including reading and writing. It is a condition more common than Parkinson’s disease or cerebral palsy, affecting about 2 million people in the US, according to the National Aphasia Association. Nearly 180,000 Americans are diagnosed with aphasia each year.
Several family members, including the actor's wife Emma Heming Willis and ex-wife Demi Moore — with whom he has maintained a close friendship — posted the statement on their social media accounts.

"This is a really challenging time for our family and we are so appreciative of your continued love, compassion and support. We are moving through this as a strong family unit, and wanted to bring his fans in because we know how much he means to you, as you do to him," they said. "As Bruce always says, 'Live it up' and together we plan to do just that."

A prolific actor who has starred in some of the most successful box office action movies, Willis, 67, has maintained a busy filming schedule even throughout the pandemic. He wrapped up five filming projects in 2022 alone and currently has six movies in postproduction, according to his IMDB page.

He has won two Emmy Awards, including one in 1986 for his lead role in Moonlighting, the TV show that launched his career, and a Golden Globe. But he is best known for playing edgy, fallible protagonists in action blockbusters, such as John McClane in the Die Hard franchise.

BuzzFeed News has reached out to Willis's representative for further comment.

RLM has done a couple of reviews of his two year glut of low budget movies, and noticed his use of earpieces, speculating that he's being fed his dialogue.

I'm not surprised by this announcement.
Incidentally was just watching the DH with the Dell guy recently.

Rough disease. I hear he was always a prick, but that's a bad road to have to walk down.

Yep, saw that also. Might be why he did a thousand shitty movies recently, make that money while he is able.

I think that's the nicest explanation, no real effort for good pay that he can bank for the family.

And for all we know he hands out extra cash to the film crews.
Or just the hot chickies

Any answer ?
it's treatable, but you're going to get your peak improvement in a couple months. The ability to recover depends on what caused the condition and the amount of nuero-plasticity remaining in the person's mind.

so if you're 8 yo and get aphasia from a wicked concussion, you have a good chance of recovering and only having mild side-effects for the rest of your life.

but if you're older and it's from a stroke, you might just start a slide from which there is no improvement.

That Sucks

Has been reported as a Booster side effect...via stroke
Some get over it, some don't

Could be just the breaks, but I wouldn't rule out vax as cause or contribution to a diminishing mind

I haven't watched any of the recent movies so I didn't know he was having issues, the movies looked so bad I didn't even click them.

So it's curable - or is it just re-learning everything?
It usually occurs due to other underlying more serious issues such as a stroke or worsening neurological condition/disease, so it will depend on the actual cause.

You seem desperate to bring this shit into everything.
Notice how nobody posted something like "might be a side effect of the Rona"?

Dude was visibly regressing for years and rumors were already out there he had something dementia-like, but here ya go again with the vax.

I know of 3 serious mrna vax reactions in older folks...one was a stroke(my uncle), he lost some cognitive function and balance
One was Bells Palsy
One was clots and amputation below the knee

If Bruce had a stroke(only he and his family and doctor know), then I am not eliminating it as a possibility

I have seen him getting old, old = vulnerable.

I hope nobody close to you has any issues after the shots, for me that isn't the case.

I see, personally I'm not eliminating the possibility of him developing brain issues cause he was hit by a small asteroid right on the temple.

Sad if true, but with you who knows if it is. That is sad as well.

Dude, you have no idea
Three elderly folks(one family)

I will take the high road, and simply hope you don't know anybody who takes a sudden turn like I did.

Not fun, or funny.

Hmnnn
Can't recall that one fully...I think it had alicia keys and hartnett but can't figure the rest
It had josh hartnett, Ben Kingsley, Morgan Freeman, and Lucie Liu, when she was still pretty flawless looking, in it.
If you don't remember it, it may be a good watch for you, big guy.
Sorry about your family, homie.

Never said anything about funny.

Both my grandparents that were left died in the last two years, those bad turns happened but were unrelated to c19.
