I went to the range and rented some pistols a couple days ago. I was really impressed with the Springfield Prodigy. It was the only gun to jam that day though. After going home and looking online it appears that they might have an issue that may or may not have been resolved. That was by far my favorite gun to shoot that day, but I'm not dropping that kind of money for something unreliable.
My search has been narrowed to a double stack 1911 style gun. So I've been doing a lot of research and I am liking the Kimber kds9c and a gun friend that knows more than me highly recommends the stealth arms platypus. Which, if you're not familiar, you can customize the gun aot of different ways on their website. It's pretty cool wait time is over 20 weeks though.

I've seen nothing but good reviews on this. I like the fact it takes Glock mags.
What's your budget? Staccato is the current king of 2011 styles.

Good question. I'd say something reasonable. Def under 2,000. I'd like to try a staccato someday but I don't know if I could ever justify that price.

Side notes:
*Ran the 25-15-5 drill. Draw and shoot 5 from each distance. Run to close the distances and reload as needed. I've seen variations of this drill, some of which force you to reload at a certain distance but I just did it whenever I was out, after running it a couple of times back to back. I think I saw it VIA MilSpec Mojo. Great and fun drill. Ran it pistol only this time.
*Added 2 pieces to my range gear that may or may not be useful to some of u. I added a green laser pointer and a telescopic magnet (looks like the old school TV antenna or the pointer they used a million years ago in schools). RE: The laser pointer so I can point out where someone hit on the target faster than describing it. IE..3 O'clock outer ring. The telescopic magnet for times I might drop my mag in front of the firing line and can't recover it because others are still shooting.
I still had my laser pointer from my visits to Thailand and they were really cheap. The telescopic magnet came in a 4 pack and were like $8

Finally received the optic for my Howa M1500 300 win mag. Went with the Arken EPL-4 6-24X50 and their Halo Rings, then bought a Warne pic rail since the fucker didn't come with one to mount the optic. Got everything installed tonight and I think this thing is going to be tits.

If I were you I'd try and handle a 2011, particularly this one. I've got big fucking mitts and this gun is a monster to grip. It's heavy as fuck too, runs 147gr 9mm all day long with reduced recoil.
Looks like a beast for sure. Price sure is right. The gun that got me wanting one is the Springfield prodigy. That gun felt great to me. I have medium hands.Take a look at these, they may be on sale right now:

How's are fucking great rifles. So are the Weatherby Vanguards, which are just rebranded Howa's.

It's not sub $2k, but it's pretty close. This article compares it to the Staccado (scroll down, it's the second review), A Tale Of Two 2011s: Double Stacks at Both Ends of the Price Scale Go Head-to-Head
2011's are basically illegal in my state unless you throw down $8k, but there are a few shops offering this one with a single shot exemption (you buy it as a single shot .22 conversion and then they convert it back to original configuration once you go to pick it up) for $2,500 with Holosun 507 comp installed.
