Pitchers and Catchers report this week.
Full squad workouts next week.

First Spring Game is Cubs @ Dodgers on 2/20.

Season Opener is on 3/18 with the Dodgers playing the Cubs for 2 games in Tokyo. Lame.

Then the rest of the league gets going on March 27. I already have my Opening Day tickets for the Giants @ Reds @ 4:10 PM.

Wild @Wild may as well merge to two threads and close the other. I don't care which way the merge happens, so feel free to bring to mine into this one, or just close mine since it only has some dumb reply in it.

I didn't see yours.
It's usually just 3 of us trash talking in it anyway.

I left "MLB" out of mine this year - might bring college into the discussion too.

I also don't care which one gets the nod. Although this one does say "Official". ;)

I haven't watched baseball in years...I might try watching it this year. Depends if there's an easy way to watch it online - preferably replays so I can watch a day behind or so as I rarely watch live. Would like to be able to catch something like Baseball Tonight or the like, too.

And I'm not paying for ESPN, youtube tv, etc to do it.

IIRC, MLB.tv is pretty spendy?

I just do MLB.tv
Every game. TV or Radio Stream.
You can rewatch games in full or condensed versions. They also have "just the highlights"

The only annoying as fuck part about it is blackouts apply. So I have to use a different stream if I want to watch my local team (Reds) - which makes it a pain in the ass to "flip" back and forth from other games going on at the same time.

They need to fix that shit.

re blackouts - do the replays get posted, though? Could you watch the next day? I'm guessing the blackouts are only live?

I live in NC, so I'm not even sure which team is considered "local" here...maybe the Braves?

And how do you watch playoffs & such?

I did look around and found mlblive dot net. I don't know how quickly they update or post games, though.

And MLB.tv has a $7/month thing (week free trial) that's a bunch of "premium content" (whatever that means), spring training, etc. - runs through the end of March.

Yeah - blackouts only apply to live games.

Probably depends on what area of NC you are in. I know the Reds have radio affiliates in the western part because I hear shoutouts during broadcasts. Braves probably up there too. Maybe the Nats and Orioles?

I'm a baseball nerd, but another bonus with mlb.tv is you get all the minor league games associated with your local team. When the Reds had CES and EDLC down there I was watching a ton of games. Fun to see what the prospects are doing before they get to the bigs.

As for playoffs - no blackouts. But those are cable networks. ABC/ESPN, TBS, Fox/FS1. I think truTV and HBO Max even get some games.

MLB does an absolutely shitty job of making their product available for public consumption.

Thanks...that's good to know.

I was absolutely a baseball nerd as a kid and collected baseball cards...I knew stats like the back of my hand. Not for everybody - just guys & teams I liked.

(I can still tell you a ton about McGwire's early years & the late '80s As. lmao)

I've not watched mainstream sports in years aside from racing. I won't watch football (which sucks as I love the sport) because of all the social bullshit. But I think I'd really enjoy getting into baseball again...if for no other reason than playoffs.

It's obviously just passed, but October baseball is one of the best things on earth.

And as far as MLB doing a lousy job of making product available for public consumption - seems like ALL sports leagues are doing that, now.

NHL.tv doesn't exist anymore in the US, as you have to subscribe to ESPN+ (I won't give them $$$). I won't watch NFL, but even if you had normal cable / satellite you'd have to have that PLUS netflix PLUS Prime etc to see all the games. I couldn't give a shit about NBA.

IndyCar was great for a while when they put their races on youtube, but then they went to NBC Sports. You could subscribe to that but it was a pain. When that got rolled into Peacock, they only keep their races available for a while. That's one thing I guess I have to give to NASCAR is that they still put their races on youtube after the fact. We'll see what IndyCar does this year now that it's on Fox.

I have Direct TV and they gave me the NBA Season Pass this year for free. Every game. I haven't watched any of it.

I even called them to remove it. They insisted it was a free "loyalty gift". I told them if it showed up as a renewal for next year and they tried to snake a charge on my bill that I would drop their asses.
