Sources: Chandler's Bellator deal set to expire

Michael Chandler is inching closer to free agency.

Chandler's Bellator contract is set to expire imminently, sources told ESPN. Per the terms of the contract, the sources were not at liberty to discuss exactly when the contract runs out.

However, according to those same sources, Chandler's management and Bellator are currently engaged in what was described as productive negotiations, though no deal is close to being finalized at the moment.

Sources say Chandler, 32, is open to staying with Bellator but also is open to testing the waters elsewhere, most notably the UFC, where a fresh crop of opponents potentially await.

Long considered one of the best lightweights in the world, Chandler has been with Bellator since 2010. His current record is 18-4, with his most recent win coming against Brandon Girtz in April, and his 15 wins inside the Bellator cage are the most in the promotion's history.

I'm guessing it will cost Bellator to keep him.
He see's what they pay UFC guys.

He'll come out of this with a nice deal from pitting them against each other

He also sees Reebok and would get to say goodbye to his sponsors.
He also sees how the UFC treats their fighters, especially after a loss or two.
He sees Will Brooks and countless others.
He'll get a fair deal, this is a common professional tactic.
But I wouldn't word this as "pitting them against each other".
Nor would I say he's gonna come out with a "Nice deal" because of it.
It'll be par for the course, hopefully he stays where he'll be more appreciated long-term and professionally.

Yeah its kinda sad... on one hand he can test himself against the best in the world on the biggest
MMA stage in the world but on the other hand in order to do that he has to subject himself to being
essentially Eggs property and chattel and also adjust to raw dick instead of with vaseline.

Choose wisely Mr Chandler and may the force be with ye

Have fun & since I like you, i will prepare a GOFUNDME to get you out

Haha funny fucking story...

When I first got into Astronomy I lived in a large condo complex. I had just got an app
that would plot stellar objects on my ipad.... First night I'm walking around my complex at 2 AM
holding an ipad up towards the sky and of course toward the roofs and tops of all the other condos
in my complex.

I got maybe 30 minutes observation time and the police pull up and stop me.

I immediatley knew why they were stopping me and what it looked like and all I could
do was bust up laughing thinking how the fuck I'm I gonna explain this shit all the while
thinking "Oh god I hope they don't shoot my black ass"

I just came with it and said... Look I know how this looks but I swear I'm just out here
testing my new Astronomy app. I'm not a fucking peeping Tom.

More funny.... The cop says... "dude I just realized the other night I look like that too
when I had my ipad out doing some observing".

We both had a good laugh... talked some astronomy nerd shit until he got another call

Haha picture I'm in a crazy affluent neighborhood, its 2AM bro... and whatever a peeping Tom looks
like I definitely woulda' fit the description considering my actions. I was sweating bullets. LOL

Thank god the cop was a fellow Astro geek

He's a little young to sign with Bellator, but I agree that they'll probably keep him...

I’ve always wanted to see him in the ufc, but I’m afraid it’s too late. He could definitely beat some top people, but his chances of taking the belt were a lot higher a few years ago. I think he matched up well with khabib and hits like a truck so Tony’s lack of defense would hurt him. I’d still favor those two over him today, but he could give us some fun fights.

I'm happy to see him letting the contract run out.

More fighters need to do this.

If they're unwilling to sign a card to see if they can form a union, then this is the next best thing that they can do to influence better circumstances and conditions in their contracts.

How much do the Bellator fighters actually make from sponsorships anymore?? I mean I know it depends on who you are but do they really make that much anymore?
