Heenan and it is not even up for discussion. His comments mid match were on another level. Dude had a jokes for every ethnicity that had to kill the locker room. The best part of a Tito Santana match was always Heenan making fun of him. Plus, Heenan could work. Had some great appearances in the ring during his AWA management days.

Never heard a bad thing about him outside the ring.

I like Ventura a lot, but it's Heenan.

Evidence of how good he is, is his run in WCW. It wasn't as good as when he was with Monsoon, because those two were perfect together. But it was still dang good.

(Minus the whole spoiling Hogan being the 3rd man thing. lmao)

A lot of times commentators seem great when paired with the right partner to play off of, but then lose a lot of shine when they're with someone else. Can't say that about The Brain.

Man... Heenan on Nitro right after Gorilla passed away was fucking gut wrenching.

Heenan didnt spoil the 3rd man! He was so absurdly good it wasnt even funny.
His 'But whose side is he on' call is fucking character perfection.

Like if Heenan would have acted like Hogan was the big hero coming out, you would know something was up.

Bobby heenan is one of the best examples of having carnies in the business. Thats why those old eras wont be replicated because they produced amazing characters because of the fascinating people that found their calling in prowrestling.

Sorry, I'm going with Jessie. Some of the reasons why: 1) He'd been there, done that-- nothing against The Brain, but I like watching the UFC/NFL/MLB with announcers that have been in the game. Rogan at least has rolled/trained with the people he covers. 2) He could talk s**t(un-pc stuff) that would NOT be tolerated today. And when he talked s**t to the babyfaces, it would put them over that much more. PLUS, he was believable when he threatened to kick their asses 3) He really put Vinnie Mac over by being a sleazy suck-up to him-- the crowd really ate that up 4) The outrageous stuff he wore was pretty ridiculous/flamboyant.

Umm... you realize Heenan WAS a wrestler first, right?

Actually, NO, I didn't know he was a rassler. That explains his encyclopedic knowledge of the game. Thank you sir for enlightening me. It makes sense even more now his outspoken criticism for The Ultimate Warrior. More like hatred. To be sure, Warrior wasn't "One of the Boys." And he didn't "pay his dues." BUT.. He had HEAT and he got over, was original, built like nobody before him and he had an ORIGINAL gimmick. Could he have a match with a broomstick? F No! Did he put people over? No. Of course Vince loved him. Probably gave him wood (along with Pat Patterson). Methinks alotta people were jealous of his meteoric rise, $$$, and special treatment by Vinnie Mac.

Warrior also injured Heenan in the ring... so that hatred only deepened.

Also, Heenan's lisp seemed a little queer. Jessie, although he dressed a little fruity, wasn't someone you could picture as a back-door man.

Warrior violently pulled Heenan into the ring and delivered a stiff atomic drop — a move where the opponent is lifted and dropped tailbone-first onto the attacker's knee. This was a typical move in wrestling, but Warrior delivered it with such force that Heenan suffered a legitimate neck injury, which aggravated an existing condition he had from years of taking bumps as a manager and wrestler.

Heenan later said that Warrior was careless and overly aggressive in the ring, especially toward non-wrestlers like himself. That injury reportedly required surgery and physical therapy, and Heenan's neck never fully recovered. He remained active as a manager and commentator afterward but was always cautious about physical angles going forward.
