Butt-hurt UFC fighters lash out at Sage

Welcome sir, I also own a The Storm shirt. How's PA MMA lately? Haven't been able to keep up much.
Hey what's up. A lot of the guys I started following in '07-'08 have retired, like Biff Walizer and Duane Bastress. I haven't been to an event in a long time, but I hear promoter Doug Yasinsky is packing 'em in at a Lancaster ballroom every few months. I think there's still shows in Pittsburgh and Philly too.
You're probably right ... fighters should be paid more, and Sage, by way of his youth, good looks and flashy flips, was able to get big money right away. On one hand, I get the resentment, but then again, they should direct it toward the UFC or focus on their own careers and how to get "Sage money." ... Remember when Machida wanted "Anderson money"?
Coaching I hear for both of them correct. I really thought Duane was the total deal, athletic, strong, could out wrestle most his size and bigger. Yea my bro main event the last event and is fighting again in March there.
Sorry to derail the thread. I agree people are upset with there own pay structure, but good to see people can still go out and earn a decent wage outside of the octagon.
It's not Sage's fault. It's Dana's.
I would bet that they would love nothing more than to put the UFC on blast for signing this kid to 40/40...but they're afraid of being shelved or cut. Intimidation - its the way the UFC brass operate. So unfortunately, Sage gets the blunt of it. Sucks for the kid, because he seems pretty respectful of his peers.
He did put a lot of hype behind the kid ... here's a question -- Do you think the UFC is looking to manufacture "stars" these days -- in other words, take relatively inexperienced (but good-looking and athletic) fighters like Ronda, Conor, Paige, Sage -- and rather than have them earn it, like the old guard of Chuck, Hughes, GSP, & A. Silva, just launch a hype train behind them and hope they'll keep winning?
Right, if he's hurt by all the criticism, he's not showing it. He just put out a video thanking everybody where he's riding around on a hoverboard and shooting baskets, and he misses twice. ... I don't see him losing that gee-whiz All-American kid next-door thing, ever.

Ronda was a nobody to everyone that didn't follow Olympic judo and she started off with amateur MMA fights. She ran through everybody and built a name for herself by being dominant. She earned all the hype she got. The same with Conor, he earned it.
Paige and Sage (ha their names rhyme) were given a push based on their looks. They earned none of it. So I think the UFC does "manufacture" their stars to a certain point but eventually they get exposed.

Yep I think when they lost GSP suddenly, Nick Diaz proved unreliable, and then Anderson lost, they got worried about not having any big money-makers ...
No reason to hate Sage, he's not a McGregor/Sonnen/Mayweather type of shit talker. He just seems like a nice kid who's just happy to be there.
Guys are mad at him because the UFC has created a toxic environment where most of the roster is broken down and bitter because of the way they are treated and compensated for their hard work and risk. Morale among the fighters seems to be at an all time low. I said it before, if all these guys were treated fairly and paid well, you wouldn't hear jack shit about Sage losing. There'd be more support coming his way.

There's always at least one asshole everywhere you go. Even in this ufctopia you describe, there'd be one grumpy fuck with an axe to grind and a Twitter account.
And the Reebok deal seemed to just be the icing on the cake ... props to Benson for signing with Bellator. Can't wait to hear how much he makes in sponsorship for his debut fight in the org.

Just checked out your video about Kovalev/Pascal, I was thinking the same thing about the 50k bet. Last until past the 8th round? Shouldn't you be concentrating on actually winning the fight?
Kovalev beat the brakes off the poor guy. Thought the ref should have called it off several times. Glad it got stopped before Pascal turned into Kovalev's 2nd fatality.

I believe Duane is head wrestling coach at York College and Biff was at Millersville but then I heard went back to his high school (can't remember where in Pa.). Quick story about Duane -- I saw him fight a few times in AC ... one time, some drunken couple tried to pick a fight with him and his crew on the boardwalk -- they had no idea who he was, or that his striking coach and BJJ coach were with him. Everybody showed great restraint and just made our way back to the bus with these two idiots following us and yelling. But you know as Kenny Florian once said, "With great power ..."
