SCHERTZ, Texas - The name of a 6-year-old boy who was killed in a deputy-involved shooting Thursday has been released.

The boy was identified Friday as Kameron Prescott, the Bexar County Medical Examiner's Office said.

Kameron attended Weiderstein Elementary in the Schertz-Cibolo-Universal City Independent School District, said school district spokesman Ed Suarez.

Suarez said he expects extra counselors will be on hand when classes resume in early January.

Kameron was killed following a lengthy manhunt for a woman in her 30s who was also killed in the shooting at the Pecan Grove Mobile Home Park off FM 78 in Schertz, Bexar County Sheriff Javier Salazar said.

The woman, a known felon, was believed to have been armed, but deputies didn't find a weapon, Salazar said.

The sheriff said the woman led deputies on a foot chase for about a mile through the woods. Salazar said she pointed a gun at deputies.

“At one point, the suspect actually crossed a creek that was there. Two of the K-9 deputies also crossed that creek, also on foot with their dogs,” Salazar said.

The woman ended up cornered near a mobile home she was trying to enter, Salazar said. Deputies said they felt threatened by the woman and opened fire, striking her several times, Salazar said.

Kameron was inside a trailer when was fatally shot in the abdomen.

"I was on the bus coming home from school, and I was freaking out because we all heard the gunshots," said Galaxy Scott, who knew Kameron.

“He was just that little kid. Mostly rode around on his bike when his cousin wasn't around. He was really sweet,” said Callie Lawrence, a neighbor.

The Sheriff’s Office said the woman wouldn’t surrender after it was discovered she was trying to break into homes.

Investigators on Friday were continuing to look for the gun the woman may have been carrying. Authorities said if anyone finds it, they’re asked not to touch it, stay near it and call the Sheriff’s Office.

I love how these articles point out a gun wasn't found like that automatically incriminates the cops. The lady was a known felon and believed to be armed, if she stops and reaches for something or puts her arms out like she's pointing something, you don't wait until she's able to fire a couple of shots at you before you react, because if that's your policy you're not making it to retirement. So fuck this lady.

As for the kid it really is horrible, but a freak accident.

I will just say this now. For all our cop haters here or shall I say just our main one. Don't make this about your hate, it's a terrible tragedy and let's leave it at that.

Well the issue is that they opened fire on the mobile home with or without knowing she was the only occupant and she wasn't so they're still wrong.

Don't know how much more there needs to be. It's absolutely horrible but seems like a pretty clear cut accident.
They just happen not to see the mobile home or think someone could be inside? Seems like they were careless. There were two k9, they could have released the dogs instead of shot at the mobile home.

So if a felon breaks into your house and the cops rain bullets down on you and your family inside because they were trying to shoot the felon who broke in you would be like "oh it was accident, all good" should they kill your child "accidently"? Shouldn't they have presumed innocent people could be in the home before carving holes in it like Swiss cheese?

If vutu would have asked those questions then he has a well balanced perspective.

I think to call this an accident is really making excuses for poor policing. It would be passable if the boy was playing nearby and the cops didnt know and he got hit with a bullet but they fired on a home without knowing who was or wasn't inside. That doesn't sound like an accident to me. It sounds like very shitty policing.

Accident or poor judgement?

Unarmed female vs a bunch of cops with tasters, dogs and batons. Seems unnecessary to shoot her imo from what I read.

I'm starting to lose my sympathy for people who do stupid and than have something happen after they have done stupid shit

So you’re saying you feel no sympathy towards the cops who opened fire on an unarmed lady in a potential crossfire situation.

Why were they after her in the first place?
What does that matter?

Fact is the cops used horrible judgement opening fire on an unarmed lady in a residential setting.

I feel for the family of that little boy who was doing nothing wrong.

Even if the woman was armed, who the fuck fires towards occupied trailers?

You realize that poor training is what leads to accidents, right?
