Last week, undefeated boxing legend Floyd Mayweather Jr. hinted that he was in talks with the UFC.

“I can come right back,” Mayweather said during an Instagram live video. “If I want to, I can come right back to the UFC. I can go fight in the Octagon. I can do a three or four-fight deal in the Octagon and make a billion dollars. Remember, I’m Floyd ‘Money’ Mayweather, and you motherfu*kers love me, and I love you motheru*kers.”

Shortly thereafter, UFC commentator Joe Rogan stated that he’d heard Mayweather was indeed speaking with the UFC.

“Floyd talked about it. This is apparently one thing I can tell you,” Rogan said on his podcast. “Dana told me that Floyd wants to make a deal in the UFC. Like legitimately. So I texted him ‘is Floyd really talking about fighting MMA?’ He goes ‘yeah, he’s f**king crazy, I told him he’d get killed but he’s still talking about doing it.’”

Now, UFC President Dana White himself has confirmed the legendary pugilist has been negotiating with the UFC.

“We’re talking to Floyd about doing a UFC deal,” White told ESPN’s Brett Okamoto. “It’s real. He was talking about [boxing]Conor McGregor. Was that real? Have you heard Floyd talk about many things that aren’t real? He usually tips his hand when he’s in the media and then that s— ends up happening.

“We’re interested in doing something with Floyd. Everything is a realistic possibility. Mayweather vs. McGregor fu*king happened. Anything is possible.”

Yeah so annoying. That would be so stupid for floyd. Did he not see Toney vs Randy? Floyd would either be taken down or head kicked into oblivion. The guy has taken no damage why start now

dana obviously gave rogan talking points for his MMA show...floyd to MMA...and Jon Jones excuses about PEds

which oddly enough seems to have replaced fight companion(which I bet they told him to stop and paid him to do so)

blatantly obvious

unless floyd gets paid 200 mill he will not fight anyone....why would he

If Floyd fights in UFC, either be Floyd vs a CM Punk level opponent, because fair.

Or he gets a special boxing fight in UFC vs Top ranked opponent who would take it for money and/or publicity reasons.

Overall. No, its not happening.

I think the only reason he's entertaining the idea at all is the outcome will have 0 bearing on his undefeated boxing record, so it'd be an mma match imo

Probably a no-takedown/submission rule, plus shorter rounds, maybe 4 mins (half-way between 3 min boxing round and a 5-min MMA round) and boxing gloves instead of 4-ounce MMA gloves. ... heck, Mayweather might even push for a no-clinch rule.

Floyd walks around at featherweight, which means his ideal MMA fighting weight would likely be bantamweight. The money fight (in the UFC) is Conor vs Floyd, but McGregor is the lightweight champion who walks around at welterweight. It doesn't work outside of boxing where Floyd can make up the size difference with superior skill, even at 40.

He'd still be giving up 15-20 pounds to the much younger fighter, but seriously, this entire scenario is a result of the UFC trying to secure a new TV deal. On the one hand, you have to ask yourself, who would be dumb enough to believe anything Dana has to say, much less a hypothetical that has Mayweather signing a multi-fight contract with Zuffa? On the other hand, the Fertittas found a buyer who was willing to pay over 4 billion for a company with only two bankable stars, Ronda Rousey (currently retired) and Conor McGregor (currently inactive).

This won’t happen.
Can we rule out Floyd fighting an actual MMA bout against a legit MMA fighter in a legit contest? Yes.

Can we will rule out a rigged contest that allows Floyd to win, slamming another nail into MMA's coffin? Sadly, no.

WME are desperate and stupid.
