I don’t think he’s teaching him to show his feelings. I think he’s teaching him to recognize his emotions and work past them.

Agreed. It was clever having the kid yell he's nervous and how that acknowledgment let him push past it. And also not be embarrassed anymore. Awesome way to build confidence in a scared kid.
