Speed Racer was kind of cool in a way, good popcorn flick. Its been a long time I think I saw this in the theater but I remember not being totally upset about seeing it.I just looked up both of the Wachowski's IMDB - aside from V for Vendetta & the Matrix movies, they both wrote & directed Speed Racer, Jupiter Ascending, Cloud Atlas & the tv show Sense8. I'm pretty sure all of those flopped and / or bombed.
Perhaps the best thing they did was hire Chad Stahelski to be Keanu Reeves' stunt double in the Matrix. If they hadn't, Chad & Keanu would never have met, and we never woulda had the John Wick franchise.
On a side note - I just watched the Wick is Pain docu about the making of the John Wick movies. I had no idea that Stahelski was not only Brandon Lee's stunt double in the Crow, but ended up acting out several of his final scenes in the movie after his tragic death.
That's honestly a fairly succinct description of almost everything the Wachowskis have ever done.but its very strange, and kind of hard to follow. Sort of an artsy, sci-fi type vibe. It was one of those movies that got me thinking about life and how strong human connection really is. Probably like Jupiter it could have been a lot better if the film was organized better, or something.
They gave us The Matrix so I give them a lot of credit. Game changing movies for me and for the industry. Without them we wouldnt have the same quality of fight scenes and things like John Wick would never exist. That's honestly a fairly succinct description of almost everything the Wachowskis have ever done.
It cerrtainly describes the Matrix movies (or at least what their attemps with the Matrix movies were).
I'm a big, BIG Matrix fanboy. And even I didn't like Matrix 4. It was too big of a train wreck in the storytelling - especially since so much of it came off as trying to be a reboot without being a reboot. It was too concerned with being meta and didn't explain anything...which was bad considering the original trilogy was often hard enough to understand as it was. And if you dig into Matrix lore (the "Matrix Explained" youtube channel has a lot of very good stuff if you enjoy geeking out on it), most of what we thought we "knew" about the Matrix wasn't so.They gave us The Matrix so I give them a lot of credit. I also think V for Vendetta, while I didnt care for it much, was another very important movie that really got into the heads of those who watched it and began to question the role of authority in their lives.
Supposedly they are now allowing someone else to create a new Matrix movie. Matrix 4 lacked a lot of the punch that made the first three as good as they were, so I am really hoping this new director can bring that back.
It was not great lol. I have a lot of cope when it comes to that movie I cant even deny it. It honestly just needed much better action sequences. They were so below even 1999 level of quality that it was such a let down. Neo just holding his hand out over and over to try and EMP the machines. Think back to Neo vs the Merovingian hit squad and then in M4 we got what we got. Such a step back and that just cannot be the case if you want a good Matrix movie. Put wooden dialogue and bad actors in it, just give us a visual experience no one has ever seen before.I'm a big, BIG Matrix fanboy. And even I didn't like Matrix 4. Such as Neo never being "the one".
Anyway, I stopped paying attention to a lot of that stuff after Matrix 4, but did see & hear the rumors about a Matrix 5 with a new director. I don't remember much about it other than one of the Wachowski's was (IIRC) supposed to still be a producer...whichever one made Matrix 4, I think (it wasn't both of them like the trilogy). And if the Wachowski is involved, Keanu would come back as Neo.
But I think it's supposed to be a completely different story centered around new & different characters. No idea when it would be taking place.
