Fabricio Werdum won’t criticize his longtime rival Junior dos Santos.

“Cigano" was removed from a UFC 215 out with Francis Ngannou a
fter being suspended by the United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) for a potential violation. Dos Santos’ team revealed that his tests indicated a “low" level of the diuretic hydrochlorothiazide, which he denies taking.

Werdum, who has traded shots with the fellow former UFC heavyweight champion several times over the media for the past years, will wait for the B sample to be tested before judging dos Santos.

"I think it’s a pity that this happened, but we have to wait for the second test,” Werdum told MMA Fighting. "We don’t get along because we fought in the past, but there’s no reason to say anything bad about him. That can happen to anyone, to unknowingly take something that is banned. I have no right to say anything about this case. We have to wait for the the second test to find out if he really took something... If he really took something he has to pay for it without fighting for a while, which is a pity.....”

Werdum actually likable and reasonable in this interview.
I would wager a lot of money that his defence is about more than just giving JDS the benefit of the doubt. But it's still refreshing over the usual 'hang all PED users, I've never cheated in my life!' deflection a lot of roid monkeys use instinctively, proving that they are willing to throw anybody under the bus to get away with their lie Lance Armstrong style.

So kudos to Werdum, good show of character.

he's right.

MMA was built on roids then all of a sudden Zuffa wanted to save face and started to test guys for stuff they're used to take all their life. but if you have money and a good lawyer who's able to twist it into "tainted supplement" then you're off the hook.

Guilherme Cruz surmises in the article that it's because of Machida.
"I think that this testing is too much, too strict. It didn’t have to be that much. I’m not saying steroids, no. What I say is that USADA is too much sometimes. Is too much COCK. It didn’t need that much. This testing is stricter than the Olympics. I’ve never seen this before. I think it could be better. There are things that you could take that wouldn’t affect your performance, but you would recover faster. We train too hard.”

I have altered that quote from the article apparently :)

I have not the slightest first hand experience with doping, but if there was some stuff that just helped recovery without destroying your nuts or other organs so everybody could take it safely during camp (like caffeine?), Werdum should simply suggest that openly to the UFC and USADA.
