Formerly writing for Vice Sports with the series titled Cage Captions, my new project, Fight Facts is currently a collaboration with the great folks at Combat Docket!

The name may have changed, and some of the stylistic features from Cage Captions will also be different, but it's the same great information presented in a slightly different format. Fightland forever!

Fight Facts: UFC Fight Night Sao Paulo
10/29/17

Total number of UFC Fights: 4373
Total number of UFC Events: 415

A Brazilian to One
Starting the night at an outstanding 9-1, Brazilian fighters ended the night going an impressive 9-3 against their international opponents.

Direct Deposit
After 30 events so far in 2017, a whopping 23 post-fight bonuses have been awarded to main event fighters, far more than any other spot on fight cards.

The Dragon Slayer
After demolishing Lyoto Machida in the first round, ALL fourteen of Derek Brunson’s stoppage victories have come in the first round.

Finally
Despite stopping six other opponents in the first round throughout his UFC career, Derek Brunson’s knockout of Lyoto Machida earned him his first “Performance of the Night” bonus.

Maybe Try a New Approach
In his last two bouts, Demian Maia is a combined 0-34 in his takedown attempts.

Plugging Right Along
Breaking the record for the most fights in UFC history, Jim Miller fought for the 28th time for the promotion, breaking the tie for now with Michael Bisping, Frank Mir, Demian Maia, and Tito Ortiz.

Miller's Crossing Borders
Despite having a record 28 appearances in the UFC, Jim Miller’s bout with Francisco Trinaldo was his FIRST to take place in Brazil, in the UFC’s 30th event held in the country.

Cool Hand Luque
Vicente Luque’s D’Arce choke submission of Niko Price marked the 22nd time the submission has been performed in UFC history, and Luque became just the THIRD fighter to pull off the choke more than once inside the Octagon (Dustin Poirier and Tony Ferguson).

Never Say Never Again
Coming into this event, Niko Price (10-0, 1 NC) and Jarred Brooks (13-0) had never lost, Rob Font had never been stopped (16 fights), Jack Hermansson had never been knocked out (19 fights), and Jack Marshman had never been submitted (28 fights).

Caught in the Undertow
For the 16th recorded time in his UFC career, Demian Maia walked out to Linkin Park’s “Numb”, dropping a decision to Colby Covington but still maintaining an impressive 12-4 record while using the track.

We Hot
Walking out to “Can’t Be Touched” by hip hop group Body Head Bangerz, famously led by boxer Roy Jones Jr., Francisco Trinaldo prevailed over Jim Miller, tying the record for the MOST recorded wins with the track to 21 along with “Gonna Fly Now” by Bill Conti from the Rocky soundtrack.

Fighters walking out to “Can’t Be Touched” are 8-2 in their last 10.

Twistin’ Time Is Here
Following his loss to Dan Kelly in 2016, Antonio Carlos Junior switched his walkout music to Chubby Checker’s “Let’s Twist Again”, and has won ALL four since, with three of those four wins coming by way of rear naked choke.

Like always, if you have any questions, comments, queries or concerns, please let me know. I'm developing this with the fans in mind first and foremost, and I'm always looking for ways to improve it. I'm testing a new recurring segment titled "Never Say Never Again" where each event, I'll point out a handful of things that had never happened prior to that event. If you guys like it, I'll keep it going.

Thanks for reading, and be sure to check out my new friends at Combat Docket!

That 0-34 take down stat for Maia is unreal.
I had to go back and make sure I read it all right. In his last three fights, Maia is 4-46 in TD attempts. That's crazy numbers.

And he can't win fights any other way either, which those stats prove obviously. That's just unreal that he has attempted so many w/ so little success.

I did the numbers, and found out Maia has a 27% TD accuracy rate in the UFC, going 60 for 222. Not great.

Seems odd but picking the right walk out music seems to make a noticeable difference. Of course correlation does not mean causation but it's kind funny.

As always, really enjoyed reading this
