I've always liked Trevor Whitman's glove but the UFC wanted to buy the patent or they wouldn't do the deal.

Watching that video it's impressive on the things they did to improve the glove. Lots of things people have been saying for years.

Will these supposedly reduce eye pokes?
Yes.

Apparently the glove is designed now so the hands are not pulled open by the padding and the design of the glove.

Also, the way the cut around the fingers is makes it sloped and not level so that as well encourages the hands to sit in a closed position.

I'm glad they went to a pro designer for other leagues to get this done and they spent years on it.

Whitman has some decent gloves but now there really isn't a reason for the UFC to buy them.

This also means a huge revenue stream because smaller promotions will now buy these as well.

Eye pokes are part of fighting. Why restrict them ?

Is ufc not suppose to answer the question who would win in a street fight ?

Weidman was right

Eye pokes will not go away
No, but these new gloves create a better position for the hand to sit in a natural curl and hopefully this will result in having to be more specific to eye poke.

Jon Jones excluded.

I've really been following this and doing a lot of "research" (reading) and one thing I wish they would have looked at would be some concussive material for the padding in the knuckle.

Whitman's glove has some different shock absorbent material that reduces CTE and has been used in helmets. I'm still trying to find out exactly what the material used by the UFC glove is.

fuck, why didn't Trev sell in a complicated on-going deal? it would be worth a million or two like that, but it's worth fuck all on the shelf.

UFC wanted to own them outright and he wanted to be able to sell them to everyone.

surely he could negotiate a reasonable cut for the ufc marketing machine doing that for him.
Yeah, I suspect there is a lot more behind the scenes than we are seeing.

I think it's about Whiteman wanting more than the UFC is willing to pay and the UFC wanting to own it outright.

The Whitman gloves are apparently amazing but no one I know seems to be able to get their hands on them, literally.

Every other major league has a serious division looking at their equipment and safety improvements. If the UFC wants to play in those leagues they need to step up.

Even before the short lived glove change, they had those gloves with I think a 30 on them or something. Just a decal change. The shit was peeling off in the middle of fights. I don’t see them stepping up. They’d rather half ass try and bail just so they can say “oh look we gave it a shot”

Wonder if there is any truth to this - Grodex Owner son says Trevor visited their facility for 5 months learning their techniques then...
