Kelvin Gastelum was in Chicago for UFC 225earlier this month. Just not there ready for a fight.

UFC president Dana White said in the post-fight press conference, when asked about Gastelum possibly filling in for an overweight Yoel Romero, that Gastelum has “personal issues” that he needs to get sorted out. That’s why Gastelum could not replace Romero, if needed, in the main event title fight against Robert Whittaker, White said.

Gastelum told Luke Thomas on Monday’s edition of The MMA Hourthat he is unsure about what White was talking about that night in Chicago.

“I was dumbfounded,” Gastelum said. “Because I don’t know where those comments are coming from. I just figured he was upset over me not taking the fight a day-and-a-half before.”

It's like these guys have never spoke to, read about, or heard of Dana before....

"On vacation" does not equal unavailable because of "personal issues".

Do you think the press will ever call out that Red Ball of Lies for his shit? I mean in interviews and in press conferences, not in columns published later. He spews endless untruths and the 'media' just stands or sits there and lets it pass. I want to respect the Fourth Estate, but they make it nearly impossible.

When I originally heard Dana’s statement I figured he could’ve meant one of two thing by “personal issues”
- Kelvin allowing his weight to balloon in between fights
- Any fighter who turns down any fight at any time for any reason MUST have have some sorr of issue they need to get over (according to BLAF)

Yeah, but Gastelum says he was 205ish when the call came. That is not ballooning for a 185er. He was just drinking and partying and not physically ready to fight at MMA's highest level in a few days.
Danus just can't stand being told 'no'.

There's levels to this. Gastelum, clearly not a professional.

A real martial artist stays ready at all times. A professional stays ready at all times. He could have negotiated alot of money our of the UFC for a day and a half notice as he has the Trump card but no, he chose to go party.

He could have gone to cancun after ufc 225 but no.

These mma guys have zero sense when it comes to business.

I don't think Dana's done anything that bad here.
Dana could've said "Kelvin is an amateur, he can't stand in because he's drinking and eating his fat ass in cancun" or a whole bunch of shit about being scared or whatever. But "He can't because of personal issues" nothing wrong with that. If Gastelum just kept his mouth shut no one would've thought twice about any of it. That Kelvin got triggered and is bitching so much about such a tame throw away comment is what's destroying his image.

This instance was not "that bad" but it is certainly a personality flaw.
9/10 times Dana goes right to being a dick.
Sometimes more blatant than other times.
