Top five-ranked middleweight contender Gegard Mousasi wants nothing more than to stay with the UFC but he can’t seem to come to a deal with the promotion.

Mousasi fought out his most recent UFC contract with a victory over former champion Chris Weidman back in April before he started negotiations to hopefully reach a new deal.

The two sides have been communicating for several weeks, but Mousasi says he’s no closer to a new contract after the latest offer from the UFC.

“It’s not good. We don’t like it,” Mousasi said when speaking to “UFC Tonight”.

“We want to sign with the UFC so the UFC wants to sign also, I don’t know. They should pay. I’m co-main event all the time, it’s not like people don’t know me.”
Mousasi didn’t disclose how much the UFC was willing to pay to retain his services, but the number clearly wasn’t close to what he was requesting during this latest round of negotiations.

I find it strange that the UFC is still giving him play, due to the fact that he isn't under contract. They must have through that they were close to a deal.

No one is trying to get low balled anymore. Coker let it be known that he was planning on going to the neathetlands early 2018; mousasi probably has this in mind when negotiating with the UFC.

Bellator is going to really start cutting into the UFCs profit margins if the UFC ever starts really battling for its fighters. The question is can Bellator keep it up? The initial push is the money pit. in sure Bellator is deep in the red

Lorenzo and Frank were able to lowball fighters and wind up with approx $1.5 billion each off blood & sweat of those fighters.

Luckily those days are coming to end thanks to Viacom and Scott Coker providing competition and a true alternative.

The eye opener was the sale imo. Had the UFC not sold, they would have probably been able to get away with lowballing more fighters for longer.
When you see the company sell for 4b and you're only making 60k to show, that really opens your eyes.

Again though, the question is how much is Viacom willing to eat before they see return. I've heard that they told Bellator execs to spend what is needed, which is a good sign

Mousasi is on a 200/200 from what I've read. Can Bellator do better than that? Is Mousasi worth that much to bellator?

I think the UFC pissed off some Viacom & Spike execs over the years, and Viacom is in this for the long haul. I really do.

I agree. Don't see why Viacom would be giving a real international push, trying to establish new mma markets, if they weren't looking at this long term.

Still though. Bellator needs to be able to make at least a couple waves a year on ppv if they have any hopes of competing.

Really do hope their ppv next month does well. I'll be buying if the card holds up(the Lima, pico, chandler fights need to hold up) don't care much about the main event.

I'd really love to see him sign with Bellator, but I'm not getting my hopes up. If I had to bet, I'd bet that he resigns.

They are airing the bellator cards on the dutch spike channel, but it's usually on a week later.
Time difference is fucked up for us but a week is just silly, still alot of people are actually watching it, not hardcore MMA fans just casual eyeballs who get a little more invested in mma.

Not the way to negotiate. Take the belt, and use it as leverage. Otherwise, leave the company and get paid elsewhere.

I do not agree, if he wants to do that he has to sign a new contract which probably locks him in with a 8-fight deal and probably some kind of champion clause.
The can hold him in limbo for years with little to no leverage, they can strip him from a belt whenever they feel like it.

At this moment he's a free agent with a 6 week exclusive negotion term left, that 6 weeks is his leverage now, after that bellator, rizin or another org. can make him an offer, the ufc can match that or let him go, i say THIS is the best moment to negotiate.

His contract is up, well show him that you want him too stay, if not he's an international known fighter he can fight all over the world and not only MMA, his mma record is 46-6-2 and he has kickboxing record of 5-0, his mma record is insane for guy his age and alot of big names opponents.

He has fought in pride, was a Cage warriors, DREAM and strikeforce champion, and the guy is still relevant and ranked #4 in his division.

Love Gegard Mousasi, he deserves every penny.

Guy has traveled the world fighting for years and somehow is just hitting his prime!

I hope Mousasi joins Rory Mac and leaves the UFC for Bellator -- headlines the Netherlands Card....

Bellator holds a massive outdoor event in Hawaii where Mousasi Co-Headlines with a local Hawaiian Boy and the world is set on fire by the pure atmosphere the Hawaiian fanbase would bring!

I usually hate it when guys leave the ufc for more money and we lose out on good matchups, but i gotta say the prospect of the moose in bellator is exciting to me. I'm sure he could come in and wreck house at the middleweight division and become a champion. as long as they can keep him active he can potentially become one of bellator's biggest stars, finishing guys every few months like Lombard used to do(i remember Lombard had a huge buzz, his fights were Tyson-esque, you know he was gonna smash the guy, but you couldn't wait to see it anyways).

so sign a 6 fight deal, get a title shot, win the title, defend it 5 times, AND THEN you'll get what you're worth...
