I feel like fighters got paid a couple grand no strings attached to say they "joined the GFL"
A good portion of the guys that signed on had very little chance of passing a commission because two months earlier they were claiming CTE and damage while the UFC lawsuit was still finishing. Many red flags.

Organization has mostly been a press release and hype with nothing backing it.

it would be nice if the ownership would grow some balls and address the public on this instead of hiding. the CEO doesnt even have a twitter account and hasnt updated his IG in 17 weeks . apparently the owner darren owen used to run WSOF Canada with ray sefo and own Aggression mma and Armageddon fighting championship .they did a bunch of shows out of edmonton back in the day .

They probably paid for press via fighters signing...grabbed some no strings funding...and ghosted the fighters/funders/fans

That is my best guess on what went down

UPDATE ON EVERYONE’S FAVORITE MMA PROMOTION GFL — Darren Owen is pitching fighters on a “non profit event”. He’s calling it a revenue share but it’s a profit share. The event has to break even before distributions are made to fighters. He’s projecting event revenue of $5 million for 1 event minus $1.3 million to produce. The $5 million figure is the low end projection. High end $11 million plus. Projected profit $3.75 million. The $3.75 million would be paid out to 30 fighters (15 fights). Main event gets combined 30% of the $3.75 million profit or $562,500 each. He’s projecting $3 million in media rights, $800k in ticket sales, $1 million in sponsorships, $250k in merch. These are the low end projections. These are completely unobtainable figures. This is FYRE FESTIVAL.

jesus christ. makes you wonder what the police are for lol - this guy's allegedly a lunatic and he's allegedly operating an obvious fraud in broad daylight.

is he legit asking fighters to risk their lives (and health more generally) by fighting, with no guarantee of payment?

wtf, just crazy, don't the commission have power to pull this guy over for a discussion?
