I typically have trouble finding/making time to do work-in-progess posts. But this one is slow going and starting to take shape.

There’s a lot of time and raw material that’s gone into this already and we’re still not done with the sheath hardware.

The brass plates still have to get patinad and drilled out. Then the shoulder strap still has to be made.

More brass hardware for that. And then everything has to get riveted down.

As always, everything done by hand and eye.
Fuck, this one is nerve-wracking.

It's funny, I'm actually basing that pricing on estimates I've been getting from contractors.

It's insane that those fuckers want to charge more than I do for shit like deckwork and drywall when my work is far more difficult, skilled and intricate.

So I'm making no apologies for the 1500.

I've kept my pricing very reasonable and below the industry average for over a decade and will continue to do so.

But for work like this, yeah. I gotta get what it's worth.

And seeing guys around here charging what amounts to a hundred bucks for installing a single plank of wood with a few screws amplifies that.

Nope nothing to apologize for. If you were responding to me I wasn't implying anything. Just responding to no raffle with a meme.

Oh no, nothing to do with what you said.

I'm just pissed off seeing what other people in my area charge for their work.

I've also been pondering hanging up the hammers and going back to work somewhere else.

I am meeting with my menu designer in about 15 minutes, I went out for breakfast the other morning and paid 55 dollars for the two of us, for fucking breakfast. I looked at my wife and said, we are too cheap if this is what they they are getting for eggs and toast. I paid 19.99 for a meat omelet with toast and crappy home fries. I charge 17.99 for hand cut/trimmed teres major, peppers, onions, garlic mashed potatoes made in house and gravy for our steak tips.

I get it buddy, keep doing your thing, you can always do it as a side hobby if you need to scratch that itch.

That's crazy.

Shit like that is why I love finding other people like me/you who charge an honest price for honest work.

Like when I rear ended a tree last year. One shop wanted over 2500 to repair. Shop down the block made it good as new for 450. Like it never happened.

I stick with those types of people forever. Hard to find.

I swear every contractor in this town is crooked. I've been genuinely shocked since moving here.

Yeah, but we got to pay the bills, I went up a dollar on everything across the board and removed some high food cost items and replaced them with cheaper ones.
