Are we sure he has no ground game?Im excited for saki to fight in the ufc. But hes just a takedown away from getting schooled by a regional fighter with a minimal ground game
I keep thinking of Andy Souwer who trained for years with Aldo and still got tapped out easily twice in Rizin. I doubt Saki had a better TDD/anti grappling mentor than Aldo and you just don't pick up BJJ and lose a lifetime of sucessful striking habits from standup-only in a few years of mma training at 30+ years old. so while Saki in UFC looks exciting, I'd much rather see him stick to kickboxing. Are we sure he has no ground game?
Being a kickboxing legend might have something to do with it..Punk got in on name alone is the problemHe starts his UFC career as an 0-1 MMA fighter, yet people complain about the undefeated CM Punk getting a shot.
If this guy has robert whiteker's takedown defense, the LHW division would be in trouble, but that just a dream. He starts his UFC career as an 0-1 MMA fighter, yet people complain about the undefeated CM Punk getting a shot.
At least he can fight on his feet...Punk gets tooled in just about any gym he walks into.He starts his UFC career as an 0-1 MMA fighter, yet people complain about the undefeated CM Punk getting a shot.

I don't think so. Striking is much more straightforward to learn anyone can become respectable with a couple years of dedicated training then get all excited after KOing a bum or two. They'll still have huge flaws and always be in danger of getting KTFO but they can hold their own and even trick people into thinking they're good from sheer aggression and punch spamming. Many grapplers come to MMA and could develop great striking skills and become a stand-up fighter.
Has there been a case where it was the other way around?
Striker falling in love with grappling and thats all he wants to do??
Only ones to come to mind would be cheick kongo who nowadays wrestlefucks everyoneMany grapplers come to MMA and could develop great striking skills and become a stand-up fighter.

Ernesto Hoost vs Bob Sapp and Royce Gracie at first UFCsI don't think so. Grappling on the other hand is much more complex and you'll always look helpless against someone who has a few years of experience ahead of you.
I know what you mean but bobby doesn't have impecable TDD out of nowhere, he's the national australian wrestling champ and pretty sure he tried out for the Australian Olympics pick this yearIf this guy has robert whiteker's takedown defense, the LHW division would be in trouble, but that just a dream.
Atleast Saki has a proven combat sports record and is nasty on the feet.He starts his UFC career as an 0-1 MMA fighter, yet people complain about the undefeated CM Punk getting a shot.
