Holly Holm, Megan Anderson to Meet in Featherweight Tilt at UFC 225
A featherweight clash with title implications will go down in the Windy City when Holly Holm squares off against Megan Anderson at UFC 225.

The Chicago Tribune first reported the matchup on Wednesday. UFC 225 takes place at the United Center in Chicago on June 9 and is headlined by a middleweight title tilt between Robert Whittaker and Yoel Romero. In the co-main event, Rafael dos Anjos and Colby Covington will lock horns for the interim welterweight crown.

Why have Holly in there to get yet another shot at contention? She's lost back to back FW title fights. If she wins, she knocks off the only possible viable contender for Cyborg. Then what?

I'm guessing they're trying to line Holly up for a rematch, which is some Endeavor type bullshit. I think it's a terrible matchup for Megan I like her odds against Cyborg far more than against Holly.

This was the best (non-title) matchup they could make for the Women's 145 division. Holm needs a win against a featherweight to remind everyone that she's a former champion and a legit threat at 145, while Megan needs a win against a bigger name in women's MMA as an introduction to UFC fans before stepping into the cage with Cyborg.

Megan is hot, but she's getting thrown into the deep end with Holly. I don't see anything in her game that makes me think she can hang with Holly, unless she's made insane improvements.

From a divisional rankings standpoint, it would make sense to pit Megan against Cyborg, but since when does that factor into UFC matchmaking? Also, if the UFC believes Cyborg beats either one of them, they might as well cash in on another FW fight before feeding the winner to Cyborg.
Selfishly, I am a big Holly fan. I think she is a great person, a wonderful ambassador for the sport, and her legs are national treasures. Anything that gets her closer to being champion again, I'm all for....I'm just not sure that 145 is her best chance at doing so.

Because WME are dumbtwats
Its like that Jim Heard guy who got hired by WCW along time ago and Flair said he was the dumbest motherfucker around and tried to come at this whole thing like a business and when you do that you make stupid decisions you think are good. Sports or sports entertainment doesnt work that way. You cant manufacture a win so you can put people up against other people hoping for a specific outcome but in MMA that does not work. Like some said what if Megan loses, that was Cyborgs only other challenger. I have no interest in seeing Holly fight Cris again. Im a Holly fan but she needs like 3-4 wins in a row right now.

Because you get it, if me and you where in charge this shit would run better. WME is running it all wrong. Instead of trying to get 145 chicks from outisde the ufc, they are pulling shit like this.

They are clearly only concerned with ratings right now but if you dont build a foundation which the UFC has been really lacking the last few years, you will literally hit a wall and have no fighters left to sell a big card and you no one will ever be able to be a star because they wont be showcased right or given the right opportunities. Lets be honest here, Conor is a star because of his mouth first, fighting second, and he did it himself. You wont find many guys with his charisma and fighting ability so with that being said if Conor wasnt around the UFC wouldve been in some trouble and because they promote no one else or give anyone else a push, you have what you had this weekend. When the "stars" get hurt or pull out the whole card is screwed. It should never be that way. You have more than enough talent and fighters to make every card a good one, with the right promotion and match making.

Exactly. They are stupidly putting all their eggs into this tiny box of a few huge PPV sellers. Conor, Brock, maybe Jones if he gets it together, maybe then beg the Diaz brothers, That is it. Cyborg will never be a huge PPV seller on her own no matter what they say. What where the ppv numbers for the recent cards she was on, I bet they where horrible.

You have all these guys that are promotable, Mighty Mouse, TJ, Sean O'Malley, Yair Rodriquez, Zabid Sharipo, Justin Gaethje, Khabib,Darren Till,RDA,Whitaker,Yoel Romero,Rochold,Cormier,STipe,Ngannou,Overeem etc....

They barely promote these guys, and they actually think its on the fighter to promoter themselves..

Compare it to the NFL, they took 2 of the most boring guys on the planet, Barry Sanders and Peyton Manning and made them huge starts, household names.

No one ever told Barry or Peyton to act like a douche or make loud coments, and throw shit. If you ever hear them talk, they are very bland and boring.

But the NFL was able to make Peyton being a dork into stardom,

That is the stark difference between an entity that is aware how to promote, compared to an entity that was great at being hollywodd agents but have zero wherewithal to promote their own guys.

That is really what it is about, NoDoubt

if holm loses it doesnt do much for meagan, holly is 1-4 and lost to every elite opp; if holly wins it exposes anderson and puts her faaaaaaaaaaaaaaaar away from the belt.

personally i think its a favorable style matchup for holly, against an opponent who hasnt been active, hasnt beat world class competition, isn't a big hitter and hasn't shown great def...

if holm loses she should retire..

Exactly. Times like this make one wish Joe Silva was back.
They're not even trying to build this division.
