Jon Jones no longer has a win over Daniel Cormier at UFC 214.

The California State Athletic Commission (CSAC) overturned the result of the July 29 fight Wednesday to a no-contest, CSAC executive officer Andy Foster told MMA Fighting. The decision comes one day after the B sample from Jones’ failed drug test came back confirming that he had a steroid, Turinabol, in his system in-competition.

Jones won the UFC light heavyweight title by beating Cormier and now he no longer has that victory. But the UFC controls its title belts and the promotion has been on record saying it won’t strip the title until the completion of the adjudication process done by USADA, the UFC’s anti-doping partner.

If the belt does get stripped, it’s still unclear on whether Cormier gets it back or it becomes vacant.

A message left for comment to a UFC spokesperson was not answered immediately Wednesday.

Jones tested positive for Turinabol in an in-competition test taken after weigh-ins July 28. He beat Cormier a day later by third-round TKO, but that will now no longer appear on either man’s official record.

Jones’ team has denied that Jones took any prohibited substance intentionally, saying he must have taken a tainted supplement and that he would not ingest a steroid knowingly. Jones himself has not spoken publicly about the matter.

Right decision in my opinion. During both fights Cormier was doing great in the first two rounds and then started to deteriorate as the fight went on, while Jon Jones remained fresh. Now we know why.

There's a serious case for Cormier getting a place in the goat list. Not as number 1, but he deserves to be on the list.

I think he deserves to be on the list, and I think this was the right decision, but there's some revisionist history going on in your account in the first paragraph. When did Cormier slow down in the second fight? When the shin hit his head? Can't we ever just let reality be reality, without putting our biased spin on it?

... I just sigh when I read your posts Ariel, but I'll respond to this one.

In the beginning of round 3 Cormier was not landing as much as he did in rounds 1 and 2, he slowed down considerably. Jon raised his volume of punches / kicks. Cormier ate a couple and he pretended as if they didn't affect him shaking his head.

Either in round 1 or 2 - don't remember which one right now - Jon tried to land the same high kick he knocked Cormier out with in round 3 and Cormier defended it easily.

The shaking of the head incident took place on the second round, so I was wrong about that.
The high kick that Cormier defended was also on the second round.
Cormier is visibly not as fast or as explosive in the third round as he was in rounds 1 and 2.

Agree, and I think that's the consensus of informed observers. Chael made an excellent point on his podcast about how steriods like Tbol allow you to perform more reps of a given technique, which has the effect of allowing you to execute the techniques with less effort, keeping you sharper as the fight progresses.

I think that's what we saw from Jon.

You Conspiracy nuts I tell ya.......everything's a Conspiracy with you weirdo's.
Has to be a conspiracy as there is no way he could be this stupid and dismissive of a test he knew was coming. I'm trying to figure out what happened

Mistimed it? Thought it'd be out of his system by the time he took the drug test?

*edit* but idk why he would take anything lke that actually. I read that it stays in system 4-6 weeks and if he took a random test early July And passed, it'd be stupid to take it when you have a test late July.

Maybe masking agents failed him due to the weight cut

Agreed, I'd say he deserves a spot in the top 10

reports came out that he passed a drug test 24 hrs after the failed one

Jon Jones Reportedly Passed UFC 214 Drug Test 24 Hours After Positive Test

if it's in his system for 4 weeks then wtf??
