Conor McGregor's rise to the stars was quick and in one direction up. When McGregor first signed with UFC there was some early hype, before he was champion the fans were there flooding the hallways in Las Vegas and around the world. There was something special about McGregor.

He just had a certain stigma, a charisma that drew people to him. The days of McGregor's rise are over he reached the top, once you reach the top there is only one way to go. After losing to Dustin Poirier in the trilogy fight McGregor reached a new low. He actually broke in front of everyone his leg shattered badly. At this point it is time to wonder is he finished or will he come back and regain his former glory. The popular vote is going to be the ladder, most will say he's finished.

Khamzat Chimeav is on fire in the UFC, he's gaining popularity quickly. Chimeav is not blowing up the way McGregor did but close enough he's the next big thing right now and it's because his fighting is unbelievable. It's funny how quickly someone can go from the top to somewhere in between and that is exactly what happened to McGregor.

If you asked this question a few year's ago it would not lead to much response and nobody knew who Chimeav was when McGregor was champion, but now if you ask the same question, you will almost certainly get an outcry of responses saying Chimeav will trash McGregor.

So let me ask you the fan in a duel between the former double champion Conor McGregor vs Khamzat Chimeav, a surging UFC welterweight. At 170, which man get's the victory. Both are incredible strikers, could Conor land a left hand that knocks Chimeav into oblivion?

Conor wouldn't last 2 minutes.

McGregors washed and would get owned... but he did what he came to do - get rich and look good doing it. He's gotta retire already like he said he would

I actually really like this fight. It has everything. Conor getting decimated, but showing enough wily veteran moments to really put Chimaev over. Conor can even say it's a tune up due to Khamzat's relative inexperience and fans would buy it. This would be a good passing of the next big thing guard, but I doubt Conor ever fights again.

Fights are about stylistic match-ups. This would look like Rory-Nate.

I love watching conor lose. It's beautiful watching someone who's such an ego driven jackass get his clock cleaned.

I'm just over this "biggest shit bag gets the money" era.
He went from dead broke plumber’s apprentice on welfare, to double champ and the world’s biggest superstar athlete. I’m not a fan of a lot of his antics, but I’m going to deny the work and dedication he put in to get to the top. A lot of what we see is an act. A lot of what we see is a human who got very rich very quickly, and like so many others, he has lost his grounding. I’m not going to hate on him, but i admit, I wish he would do better.

Yes, yes, he worked to get rich.
But a huge amount of his "appeal" is him being the biggest possible asshole.
And it's been years now that idiots throw money at people who try to be the most obnoxious at the presser.

I'm tired of it. Not that earlier eras didn't have phony scripted beefs and trash talk but conor took it much further than I care for. He's an unsportsmanlike prick.
Just shut up and fight, for God's sake.

In all seriousness, it is probably the worst stylistic matchup you can find for Conor - a bigger, stronger Khabib with superior striking.

Is this a joke?
Considering the ufc is entertainment driven by a bunch of actors, I would say it’s a very real possibility if they could put together a “narrative” that appeals to the mainstream

He makes it 2.5 minutes.
I suppose Connie could “re-set” many times (which we used to call back in the 1930’s when I wrestled and they still call to this day - stalling). I’ll go the over in 2.5 minutes
