PITTSFIELD, Maine (WABI) - A man from Pittsfield is accused of sending threatening messages to a juvenile and his family in Florida through the Xbox network.
The Flagler County Sheriff’s Office said detectives began investigating a series of threats reported by a Florida resident in November 2022.
The Sheriff’s Office said Tuesday 32-year-old James Maynard was recently arrested on an outstanding fugitive warrant for written or electronic threats to kill.
Authorities said those threats included threatening to kill the juvenile, burn their house down, and make their parents disappear.
They said the juvenile attempted to block Maynard, but he repeatedly altered his profile to continue harassing them.
The juvenile told investigators they had never met but had interacted through Xbox and Snapchat.
The Flagler County Sheriff’s Office said its detectives identified Maynard as the suspect in January.
Those detectives traveled to Maine Friday to apprehend and interview Maynard.
Maynard is at the Kennebec County Jail.
He will later be taken to Florida.
