Maldonado Appeal Gets New Life

"It appears that Fabio Maldonado may have an opportunity to appeal his controversial loss to Fedor Emelianenko at Fight Nights Global: 50 several weeks ago.

The World MMA Association, which is the umbrella organization that controls the Russian MMA Union, announced that they would consider the Brazilian UFC veteran's appeal against the ‘Last Emperor,' and will take several measures to ensure an unbiased verdict.

According to an official statement, the WMMAA will appoint Secretary General Alexander Engelhardt to handle the appeal procedure, and appoint a group of objective international judges under the guidance of experienced referee Marco Broersen (the Netherlands). The group is to assess the fight based on the tape and render an unbiased verdict regarding the fight and the judges' work."

I still don't expect anything to change and keep in mind this article is written by a guy on M1 payroll. Plus there is little doubt Fedor won rounds 2-3 the question is round 1 being 10-8 which rarely unanimously happens MMA.

Yeah I'll take a hiatus on Zidan articles. Plus he told me he is writing a longform on Jeff Monson which I suspect will be critical and crazy as Monson is I am still a fan.

It is definitely a conflict of interest on fedors part to be the boss of the judges and other officials. The fight itself was a draw.

The decision will be overturned by WMMAA ... it's run by Vadim Finkelstein. Imagine if Dana got to decide whether Tito would receive a victory or not when he went to Bellator. How would that go? Read Maldonado's agent's letter to WMMAA. It's like someone copy-pasted all Zidan's tweets in one long letter.

The real question is whether WMMAA is really a governing body of the Russian Union of MMA or not and if global websites and record keepers will take WMMAA's decision as an official one. We all know what bloody elbow and mmafighting.com will do, you can rest assured that fight decision will be changed for them. Unfortunately, it seems like themmacommunity.com is also taking their word as gospel.
