There was a time in the not-so-distant past when Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) bantamweight contender Michael McDonald, 26, was ranked No. 3 in the world at 135 pounds.

Then came a string of debilitating injuries, as well as high-profile losses to Urijah Faber and John Lineker, which sent “Mayday” tumbling down the division ladder. Not that he got any support from UFC along with way.

"The UFC was dishonest in the way they tried to do business with me and it's resulted in a complete waste of my time," McDonald told ESPN. "I want to feel like my employer isn't out trying to cut my head off. I'm looking to enter a mutually respectful business contract with another fight organization."

I really wish fighters would be vocal about what the exact issues are. Don't just say that they were dishonest. Spell it out. You're released. Air your grievances so that other fighters know what to look for.

Could have been part of releasing him?

If he signed a Non-Disclosure Agreement his hands are tied, period.

I'm not sure that Fertita-era Zuffa ever asked fighters to sign NDAs when they left, but WME is a different beast.

WME cares spectacularly little about the long-term, or even the medium term. I wish I could say I'm shocked they wouldn't try and smooth things over with a former Bantamweight title contender who's all of 26 years old, but they're just hemorrhaging talented fighters these days.

Why would you get rid of and/or fuck with a guy who has finished or been finished in 8 of his 10 WEC/UFC fights?????

Well an easy pick up for Bellator.
