First of Hello folks :)

So my problem is this. When I come to the home page there is the little Log in/sign up button at the top right of the page. I click that and it shows little bars blinking in a row telling me "We're thinking about it" but nothing ever happens. I finally found a way to login by hitting the quick keys button thing and it lets me log in there (Good to know after like 5 months of lurking) :)

Thats it, just a heads up... See ya round now that I can log back in

If you are using firefox it might be protecting you against tracking content, says the connection is not secure for me and I have to disable my tracking protection...

^ yeah same. If you are using the new firefox you have to press that shield icon to the left of the location bar to disable to the tracking for this site.

protecting you against tracking content

To be clear, the only "tracking" we run on this site are google analytics. This lets us keep track of things like which search terms got people here.

I know Dr. Sir.

My browser is just stupid. It only started after the last update and nothing about the site or scripts running on it changed.

The same thing happens to me. I right click on the link to the login page, and it loads immediately. I'm using Firefox.

Is your firefox set to DO NOT TRACK?
Are you browsing under a private tab?
Are you running an experimental version of firefox nightly?

The issue you all had was related to the google, facebook, and twitter buttons I use for those respective sites to allow us easy login. You can click that and it bring you in a single click. When you click LOGIN, a new window pops up that has those buttons on it. Your firefox was blocking that new window loading.

I can only duplicate this under the NEW PRIVATE WINDOW mode where DO NOT TRACK is enabled.
I am running firefox 42, the latest regular build.

I have temporarily removed those buttons.

Can you try it out again (log out and back in)?

Thanks, your answering these questions helps out.

I just logged in and it worked seamlessly...

Is your firefox set to DO NOT TRACK? I'm not sure. I run no script but have this site allowed.

No.

Yes, I'm using Firefox in private browsing mode with Do Not Track enabled.

I'll try to login again when I'm back at a computer and let you know.

@Splinty, everything seems to be working fine for me now.

Thanks!

I'm gonna make a couple of changes and put those buttons back eventually.
The buttons have to make a call over to google and facebook to allow you to sign in via those accounts. But I wouldnt have expected your browser to full block the pop up.

Appreciate your time.

Yes I have do not track on
Not browsing under a private tab
Using Firefox 42.0

works great now! no need to turn the tracking off. the log in screen pops up.

It only happened when firefox updated itself recently to 42.0 When logging on to this site there would be this shield icon to the left of the address bar that had to be turned off every visit.

now the shield doesn't even come up so everything works fine. :)

Yeah the problem is firefoxes overly aggressive do not track.

Weve now lost the ability for posters to one click login with their various twitter or Google or Facebook accounts.

I'm going to try to move the login screen from a pop-up modal to an entirely new page. It might be willing to render the new page and not the buttons. Vs right now it blocks my script that causes the pop-up login form.
