Conor McGregor is pulling out his old “Mystic Mac” routine and making a prediction for his fight.

One week out from the highly anticipated trilogy fight between Dustin Poirier and Conor McGregor, things are beginning to heat up. There are no “buddy-buddy” Twitter exchanges this time around. After McGregor was TKO’d by Poirier in the last fight, he is coming for blood. Now, McGregor is again hitting up Poirier on Twitter with his classic trash talk and threats.

“3 fights against me for any man is an early grave. God bless,” McGregor wrote on Twitter.

This isn’t the only threat being made by McGregor. He is actively trying to get into the head of Poirier. The use of talk and threats has worked well for McGregor over the years. It was one of the main reasons he skyrocketed into the star he is today. MMA fans love to quote McGregor and his famous lines.

Recently, fans have seen a different side of McGregor. Since his loss to Khabib Nurmagomedov, McGregor seems calmer. He had no beef leading up to his fight with Donald Cerrone, and that worked out well for him. McGregor sought out the previous match-up with Poirier by asking to make it a charity fight. The two were very cordial leading up to the bout, and Poirier walked away as the winner.

If McGregor thinks this talk will be the deciding factor to beat Poirier, he might be mistaken. Poirier seems unphased by this verbal pressure being placed on him from his opponent. In fact, he has sent a few shots right back.

With fight week approaching and a press conference scheduled, sparks are going to continue to fly between these two. Maybe we will see the old McGregor back again, and maybe we will see a new fired-up Poirier. Either way, this fight will be exciting from beginning to end.

Do you like to see trash talk between fighters leading up to fight night?

I like trash talk when it isn't scripted. McGregor's often is but I give him a pass when it's funny.

I didn’t like the trash talk in the first one.

I didn’t like the bromance in the second one.

I like when they fight each other.

Let’s just get to that part.

He's trying so hard he's become the biggest wannabe Conor of all. Reverting back to act 1 when zingers and one liners put him on. Sadly the sequels rarely equal or exceed the original.

I think Conor comes with a new game plan. Dustin better have one too.
ditto. but not only that, in their second fight, conor was pretty damn close to some potentially game changing head shots in round 1 iirc. and not just random hooks. he barely missed with some very calculated, sniping type twos, and one-twos

Agree. I don't think Conor loses to Dustin again.

Dustin is gonna break him again

Conor won the first fight clean, but Dustin looked like a kid then and wasn't nearly as serious or confident as he is now...he weathered a few shots and went to work in the hematch

Helluva fight

Conor can seize almost all his momentum back if he gets a finish or looks great...feels like he rode his winning aura as many do and now that he is beaten his mental game is quick to fade...I kind of root for him to get a win here because I do love the spectacle and energy he brings to a packed arena, would be nice for him to have a renaissance and get a bunch more fights in before retiring to a private island

Such motivation for both guys, exciting stuff

I agree across the board.

During Conor's initial championship run up to taking the second title from Eddie Alvarez, his biggest asset was how he weaponized his momentum. He was captivating; in the space of one year he beat Jose Aldo for the title after waging a year-long campaign of mental warfare, fought Nate Diaz TWICE, and beat Eddie Alvarez in a striking display rivaling anything Anderson Silva ever did. And then he fought Floyd Mayweather nine months later and made it look real.

For anyone who was a fan during the so-called "dark ages" of MMA when Frank Shamrock and Tito Ortiz made their bones, a time when an MMA fighter would be the highest paid athlete above Christino Ronaldo, Lebron, etc et al was unimaginable. Conor is such a draw he lost the fight and earned more than every other athlete on Earth. If there was no Khabib I think he Conor would already have ascended to the right hand of the Father on a cloud. He's a force of nature and I for one would love to see another run.

I like Dustin, and he has a great story, but unless he comes in with a grappling game plan (which would be brilliant), I think Conor takes this one.

Porier is the more complete fighter. Better everywhere actually, even his hands have improved. Max Holloway beat the brakes off of a guy I held in high regard in terms of his boxing in Kattar, but Max couldn’t get through Porier. Hands is about even as McGregor always had a decent left hand that he uses well down the pipe, but with Porier’s complete game it’s a onesided matchup going forward. The aura for Mystic Mac is gone. The guy looks very vulnerable nowadays… he’s washed up! Porier wins this fight if he uses his intelligence. Leg kick him, take him down and punish him. You can apply the choke or beat him unconscious at any point.. we all know Conor is a tapper. The moment the choke is applied he will INSTA-TAP.

For Conor to be Conor, the fight has to be at 145. He could probably never make that weight again, but he is a different fighter when he's heavier than that. His speed and footwork is next to none at 145. Above that he loses those two strengths and looks average in those areas. He's great at 145. He's good at 155.
