It looks like Nate Diaz is back.

A report from the Los Angeles Times’ Lance Pugmire says that Diaz will face off against Dustin Poirier in the UFC 230 co-main event on November 3rd at Madison Square Garden in New York City.

An official press conference highlighting the UFC’s end-of-year schedule is slated for Friday in Los Angeles, and that fight is expected to be among those formally announced.

Diaz (19-11) has not competed inside the Octagon since losing a thrilling majority decision to Conor McGregor at UFC 202. The former UFC lightweight title challenger submitted McGregor on short notice at UFC 196, with both fights in their epic rivalry taking place at welterweight. Diaz had indicated that he was ready to return to action in May or…

Wow. Didn't see that coming.
The biggest potential news ...

That means Nate & Conor might be at same presser

It also seems more likely Conor & khabib is a definite (if Nate took a fight)

Fap material, right there. Great fight!

Both come to fight every time. Diaz always has to "hate" his opponents, but I feel like there will be a lot of mutual respect here.

It is also pitting a guy who has been on the sidelines for a couple years against an active guy in the pinnacle of his prime. I agree it is a test to see if Nate moves the needle, but it also is the UFC hedging their bet if Conor gets mauled by Khabib. It brings Diaz back into the spotlight and allows his and Conor's paths to cross. If they both lose, the trilogy fight makes the most sense. If Nate wins and Conor loses, the trilogy fight makes the most sense. If Conor wins and Nate loses, then the trilogy fight is postponed.

He's in the fight of his life right now. Despite the grand jury not indicting him, prosecutors are still going to pursue the domestic violence charge. My understanding is that means they must be pretty confident they have enough for a conviction.
Prosecutors to pursue DV charges vs. Nick Diaz
So the Grand Jury refused to indict him, but the prosecutors chose to ignore their decision? That's some bullshit.

I see Dustin taking the win. Diaz is too inactive.

The Diaz brothers always make me want to watch their fights. They get in there and get after it. I wish they would fight more consistently because they are fun to watch (yes the Anderson fight was a bit of a stinker but Nick was in over his head at that point in time).

And Nate has beaten Conor twice in my opinion. If he can implement a similar volume heavy approach and control the range then I see him breaking Poirier in the 2nd or 3rd.
Poirier is also a fighter I want to see succeed, so although it's a great fight, it's one in which I hope both come out as improved and somehow avoiding too much new scar tissue. If he can chop down Nate's legs in the 1st and 2nd and threaten with heavy shots in bursts and flurries then I see that as his path to victory.

I don't see a submission victory for either as the most likely outcome but in mma, anything and everything is on the table.

well this is potentially very disappointing, that's a gem of a fight at these particular crossroads in mma.
