So I'll be spending two weeks in western Europe next month (business-related). Unfortunately I won't be able to make it to the UK, but I will be traveling through Scandinavia, the Netherlands, Belgium (Flanders mostly), and Germany.

Anyhow, I haven't traveled internationally in the last 11 months and am a little apprehensive. From 2008 to 2016, I was proud to talk about my President and my country whenever I traveled, but now...

I'm worried that people I talk to, either in a business setting or just random people I strike up conversations with, will hound me with questions about how much of an idiot our President is, and I really don't know what to say.

I agree with them 100%, but I don't think my saying "I don't know, I didn't vote for him" will suffice.

I'm too proud/patriotic to pretend that I'm Canadian, but I would rather not deal with endless questions about Agent Orange and all the dumb shit he says/does/tweets.

Any suggestions?

Good call on not pretending to be Canadian.

"I'm sorry you're a faggot" isn't gonna fool anyone.

I had the same issue pre-election while in England last year.
My response was to assure them Americans weren't stupid enough to elect Trump.
Boy ... how wrong was I?

Unfortunate for you, extremely fortunate for us......thank fuck for something finally going my way for once.......
You may now own a British passport but I've met you and know full well you talk with a slight New Jersey accent.

Stop pretending to be British.

I've been to Germany and Ukraine since he's taken office.... Some people will come over to you, give you a hug, and say "just let out those tears".... Others will point and laugh at you like you were Carrie.... Overall you'll be ok, just wear your (I assume multiple) Conor t-shirts in the UK, and insult American beer

Who cares what they ask you?
If you want to be funny just say "Why the fuck you think I'm over here?".

I just don't want to be constantly harassed. I want to be able to have normal conversations with people, without them expecting me to explain the actions of a douchebag I didn't even vote for.

I ain't about that life, man...

Make sure to remind them that trump is totally a racist and against gays. And when they eventually ask if you voted for him. Let them know of course not you're just a real ass nigga that calls people F@ggots.

Two points to make.

First, are you still considered patriotic if you're too embrassased show your American pride?

And second off, those dainty little hands would never pass for Canadian.
