How long before we all have these things as personal assistants powered by AI? Not long for those with the $$$$$ I would think

This is just hardware side. It's not really scary on it's own. Combined with AI specifically any type of decision making AI is when it'll be scary.

We have had scary hardware on its own for many decades. Think of something like a missile or fighter jet, tank, etc. Is this any scarier? No lol. Even most heavy machinery is scarier than this.

It's just the software side (AI specifically) that makes it scary.
