General Rent a car for road trip?

I own a basic SUV. Nothing fancy. It has like 60K on it. My wife and I are taking a road trip in a few weeks. Probably 6 hours on way, plus random day trips while we are at that location. We were toying with the idea of renting a car. We figure less wear and tear on engine, moving parts, brakes, tires, etc. no stress if anything happens to my car (not that I anticipate that). But a rental comes out to like $500. Not sure if its actually worth it for a piece of mind when my car is in pretty good shape.

I would just take my own car if it's only 6 hours away

I wouldn't, I don't think you'll put $500 of wear on your car. The only time I've rented was for 10 hour or more one way drive and one time it was a 5 or 6 hour trip, but I didn't trust the car I had at the time and didn't want to get stuck in a different state.

Yeah I think its only like 350-400 miles one way, so not awful

The only time I get rentals is for work trips.
