With Stipe Miocic vs. Daniel Cormier already booked for UFC 226 on July 7 live on pay-per-view (PPV) from inside T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, the promotion may be looking to add another champion vs. champion matchup.

According to a recent report by BJPenn.com’s Chris Taylor, UFC is working towards scheduling a co-main event superfight between UFC flyweight champion Demetrious Johnson and UFC bantamweight king T.J. Dillashaw.

While the fight is unofficial at this time, it’s good to know that this is the matchup UFC is looking to make. Johnson has decimated the competition at 125 pounds en route to 11-straight flyweight title defenses and desperately needs a new test his next time out. Dillashaw, on the other hand, is coming off a blistering knockout victory over Cody Garbrandt at UFC 217 to reclaim the 135-pound throne and has been lobbying hard for a shot at “Mighty Mouse.”

‘Mighty Mouse’ Vs. Dillashaw Superfight In The Works For UFC 226 Co-Main Event

T.J. posted this shot of himself on Instagram as a reminder that he can make flyweight:

If this proves to be true, then Demetrious is going to get PAID by banking on bigger names to sell a PPV, which he what he recently said he's willing to do.

Nice. It will be fun to see MM have a legit challenger. If he wins. He is GOAT. I mean right?

Shaping up to be a decent card.

Looking forward to seeing MM get a real challenge.

Sounds good but it's very much a 'we have absolutely plans for the future' statement.

Divisions will be derailed no matter what the outcomes.

I think you meant to say "NO plans for the future".

If Stipe and Mouse win nothing will be derailed but if Daniel and TJ win shit will be fucked.

If Stipe and Mouse Johnson win, then both BW and LHW have champs who just lost. For Cormier, who is already perceived as a paper champ, this will be a massive further hit to the credibility of the division. But the LHW division is fucked anyway, so it's kind of not that important. HW becomes very compelling if Cormier is champ though.

If Dillashaw gets beaten by a midget, then BW looks shithouse. If DJ loses, then Flyweight loses its only 'selling point' of a dominant champ with an aura of invincibility. But once again, nobody really cares about Flyweight anyway. A Dillasnake win at least keeps the far more compelling BW division strong.

So I disagree. There are no good outcomes without serious flaws, but the best outcomes are actually for Dillashaw and Cormier to win IF Cormier defends the HW belt. Cormier winning the belt and then retiring is the worst outcome though, as it will fuck two divisions.

I'm not looking at it the same way you are.

If TJ loses he just dropped weight to fight out of his weight class and lost to the best P4P fighter of all time and there is no shame in that.

If Cormier loses he went up a weight class to fight the best heavyweight the UFC has ever had and once again there is no shame in that.

If either or both of these fights go the other way, well, both divisions will be fucked.

Those are reasonable points, but like I said to the guy who told me that getting oral sex from alligators is a bad idea, we''l just have to agree to disagree.

I read they are trying to put Cyborg vs Nunez on the card too and bill it as a night of Champions vs champions

Wonder if they could add Whitaker vs winner of rockhold/yoel for a interim champ unification bout

I just did it, so here is a reminder to text your friend with the best backyard, and tell him that he’s hosting a pool party on July 7th.
Make him commit early.

No more tucking excuses for DJ basically. He's gonna get paid and TJ is willing to get to his weight.
