Vin Diesel says Riddick 4 is in the works, along with a spin-off TV series...

Vin Diesel's immediate priority is to shoot Fast & Furious 8 for director F. Gary Gray. But after that, he's got the latest chapter in two of his other film franchises to focus on.

We already know that he's gearing up for xXx 3, which may shoot straight after Fast & Furious 8. But the actor and producer has also confirmed that there are more stories in the Riddick saga to be told.

David Twohy, he revealed, plans to pen Riddick 4, but there is also a spin-off TV series on the way. Diesel posted at Instagram that the TV project will go by the name of Merc City, and follow "the Mercs and Bounty Hunters of the Riddick universe".

There's no release date yet for either Riddick 4 or Merc City. But both are very much active projects on Diesel's slate.

I like this franchise. IMO Chronicles was the best of the first 3. The third one, Riddick, had too much CGI going on I thought. Plus its story was very basic. All in all I still enjoyed Riddick. I hope 4 can surpass them all and possibly lead Riddick in new directions. I'm not a harsh critic of movies. I can only guess Riddick probably didn't get many great reviews. If Vin wants to keep this character going, I will gladly watch.

The mercs show might be interesting. Any thoughts?

WHY??? Pitch Black was an interesting movie of a modest budget. The follow ups were awful and were neither critical nor box office successes. I'd rather watch a sequel to the the movie in which he was a nanny.

to me Pitch Black felt like it was straight-to-tv and had a weak cast better suited to sci-fi series.

yeah Riddick was still cool in that movie but didn't have many moments to shine, honestly.

I've seen Chronicles of Riddick a few times and always enjoyed it, with the latest film falling somewhere inbetween the previous 2.

I heard the Escape from Butcher Bay Riddick game was really good too, but I guess it's dated now

3 sucked ass.

The first 15 minutes were great and looked like some good shit was gonna happen..... then the rest of it happened.

I loved Chronicles and thought Pitch Black was pretty decent.

Didn't care much for Riddick.

I'd give a new film a watch.

I remember really wanting to see Pitch Black from the previews. Well I didn't get around to it.
Then Chronicles came out and I thought it was awesome.
And somebody told me Pitch Black was the first one, so I immediately watched it and thought it was very cool.
The 3rd seems lackluster, but I think it has a following and the 4th will be good again.

That's what I'm hoping. It's wide open in which way they can go with this. Like it was said above, get some creative writers and make it great(if it really goes through).

I forgot I made this thread and haven't followed progress.

I like riddick the character a lot. But the films need far far better writers.

The extras in the pitch black and chronicles of riddick dvd and blu ray actually revealed way more about the world of the mercs/bounty hunters and riddick than the films themselves.

The writers had a lot of material to work with in the third riddick film and all they did was just remake the first pitch black with better graphics.

I think they needed to prove that Riddick could be a commercial success as an IP. So they were cautious and recreated the original with a small budget. It wasn't bad for what it was. Hopefully the film and TV series will be more, as the IP is very interesting.

I think if the fourth movie happens they are not going to go for the "one man stranded" atmosphere again. I think a lot of Riddick's best interactions are his one-on-one talks, or hell, his communication with beasts. Long rambling rant aside, they need more dialogue and they know it. The games convey the story best though.
