Sonnen not buying Fedor Emelianenko’s humble ‘gimmick’: ‘You’re a scumbag and so am I

Chael Sonnen doesn’t just question the validity of some of Fedor Emelianenko’s fight results. He’s not sure if “The Last Emperor” himself is the genuine article.

“The Bad Guy” told Ariel Helwani on Monday’s edition of The MMA Hour that he believes Emelianenko’s reputation of pure martial artist and humble warrior is merely a public persona.

“I don’t know about the whole respect thing,” Sonnen said. “He seems like a perfectly nice guy, I don’t think I would want to take anything from him, but it’s a gimmick, right? All the guys are working a gimmick. He found his gimmick. He found a little something with the respect and the humbleness and looking like Dumpy Dwarf getting interviewed by his translator Snow White there.

I'm not saying I like it, but this is this is the Connor era. A lot of the dudes who popped a boner over him will eat Chael's shtick up. Then again, I've been wrong before....see my fight prediction.

Win or lose were talking about him and it gives him future material. It's too specific IMO, and I can't remember if Finkelstein even denied it. All I remember is him being mad that the UFC wouldn't let Fedor compete in Sambo. But yeah, to me there's gotta be some truth to it.

Fedor's image is too sanitary, I just don't buy it. Never did. He's presented as too perfect a guy.

Yeah, Finkelstein denied it. And he wasn't "mad" about Sambo competition, it was simply part of negotiations that Dana wouldn't concede.
