I had no idea he even had a late night show other than the cole-bert report. I didn't watch it, either, but I remember seeing clips of it back in the day.

I was actually reading the yahoo article comments earlier and one comment said

at his best he was doing 2.8 mil viewers, apparently that was about 1/3 of what Letterman was doing, and I have to imagine the production cost is 2x or 3x what it was back then

so politics had nothing to do with it, he just sucked and wasnt funny

I admit he was funny on the daily show, and the Colbert Report was pretty solid. Everyone was in on the joke and the idea he was playing a character.

When he got the late show he was also playing a character, pandering to a certain base. I think over time that character took over to the point he forgot he was just a talk show host.

I don’t watch him. Thought he was funny on Comedy Central. I surprised they don’t shop the show around. I’m sure Apple, Amazon or Netflix would want it in some form.

The leftist spin on this shit is fucking hilarious. There are comments all over social media saying Trump is making CBS do this, and the media is taking a knee to their king, the head of the FCC is in Trump's pocket, etc.

So the exact same mainstream media that's incessantly mocked & derided Trump at every opportunity is now doing his bidding?

lol ok

They're also quoting some Washington Post article about how it's not because of "ratings" or "performance"...that Colbert has the "highest ratings in his timeslot". Rather, it's just that late-night viewership as a whole is down.

NEWSLFLASH DIPSHITS - if a shitload less people are watching, it's still not a good "performance".

Another newsflash - being an insufferable faggot that continually alienates half your potential audience apparently isn't good for viewership.

Who knew?

They are all getting killed by podcasts and there's really nothing left in the tank when Fox News is quadruple the ratings. Nobody wants what they are selling.

But its not about ratings, definitely not about ad buys.

Well they've done what the usual suspects typically do, and that's move the goal posts / change the generally accepted definition of terms if & when it suits them.

In the past, "ratings" typically was a reference to viewership. And viewership was typically correlated to quality. So if ratings were down, viewership was down.

Now they don't wanna admit that they can't pull eyeballs (or that continually shitting on half their audience isn't a good tactic), so they're divesting the "quality" aspect from the "viewership" aspect.

Listen - if only four people show up to your concert, and all four rate it 10 out of 10...it doesn't matter because only four fucking people showed up.

Those two things are related. Pro Wrestling has long history of this problem. They pull fairly high and extremely consistent viewership numbers so networks get their rights. The when the networks shop their ad space the advertisers say "Professional Wrestling? Eww"

Fox Sports cited it when they didn't renew WWE last year. They were happy with the ratings, but they couldn't make money from advertisers.

MMA has the same problem, so do podcasters. Basically billion dollar corporations don't want to invest in something might that offend someone in any possible way.
