The whole Anderson phone call thing is weird. IMO, Anderson is one of those guys who was scared before every fight, which is one of the things that I think makes him so great. I've seen him backstage in his prime and he was a scary mofo, just a very convincing vibe of intending to kill/smash anything in his past that might resist his stare-slap, and he looked 6-3, minimum, when he was listed at the time as 5-10. Anderson was playing the mental game 24-7 because he understood that fear=hesitation & that he didn't have to be unafraid, just less hesitant than his opponent. He probably did make that phone call, but just to buffer Jones's confidence, which apparently worked.
