Umar replied to Merab: Make up your mind who you are
The fight between the toad and the viper has reached its climax.
Yesterday, during a Q&A session with fans, Merab Dvalishvili's "Georgian Icebreaker" experienced an uncontrolled fire on the lower deck: the newly-crowned champion could not calmly answer the question of whether he was afraid of Umar Nurmagomedov.
Fear in the context of combat sports is hardly similar to what the average person experiences. These guys are not afraid of getting beaten. But losing a fight, losing a belt and the huge money that champion status promises - yes, they are probably at least afraid. The same with all these stories about zero in the defeat column - what these guys will not do in an attempt to avoid defloration of their virgin (and often inflated, like a rubber doll from a sex shop) record.
This is exactly what is happening to Merab now. Even before his victory over Sean O'Malley, he dreamed that he would continue to beat veterans, downed pilots and stylistically convenient opponents, rest on his laurels, mow down cabbage, bathe in luxury and attention from the opposite sex. And suddenly he is offered the hottest prospect of the division, and even in the UAE or Saudi Arabia, where Umar will have a powerful handicap. It is not surprising that Merab tripled at this prospect in the interview after the fight with Sean.
Yesterday there was simply a relapse, since for Dvalishvili this is a painful topic. Umar has already commented on his attack, explaining his position:
"I am always ready to fight, and right now I am waiting for a new opponent, because Yadong refused to fight in December. I heard that he is injured.
Merab, before my fight with Sandhagen, you said that if I beat him, I would deserve recognition. Now you have changed your position. Make up your mind who you are.
All the fans and analysts have noticed that you are avoiding our fight. The champion status means recognition of your merits by others - but you have not received it. And you know it very well.
I am not going to wait for anyone, and I want to fight before Ramadan. I hope the UFC will find me an opponent. And the title - inshallah - is just a matter of time."
An ignorant fan may think that Dvalishvili is a coward and a scoundrel, and Nurmagmedov is a white and fluffy impeccable warrior who will jump out "anywhere, anytime and with anyone." In fact, this is nothing more than a load of crap for the average person. Umar's staff tried to drag Merab into a fight 90 days after winning the belt in a 5-round match, clearly trying to secure an advantage for themselves. The second option was to drag him to a tournament in Saudi Arabia in January-February 2025, where this advantage would have become tenfold.
So we are not witnessing a battle between good and evil, but a fight between a toad and a viper. And in this regard, in some sense, it is even pleasant that a gang of scoundrels and cowards, who built their felt empire on jumping out of dangerous matches, set-ups, multi-move moves, blatant hypocrisy and outright escape, have finally found a worthy opponent in Dvalishvili.
