I never understood this and I just got a fitbit, so I figured I'd ask. I remember all the humblebrag threads on that other site about everyone's Olympian-level resting heart rates, but I actually don't know when I'm supposed to take it.

Mine is 59 when I wake up before I get out of bed or anything, but as I sit at my computer now typing, it's 76, so..?

@Splinty ?

When you're resting

:D

I figure 5 minutes after cardio,
Out of bed in the AM, then average?
@Splinty ?

Sit doing something mundane for 5 minutes then check.

Minimal exertion. Not altered by substance, sex, exercise, or anything else cool.

As someone with an Olympian heart rate, I am just waiting to humble brag.

Measure it right after you get done making another incredible thread in the fapout.

I reckon you need a few sprays of the ole ventolin while running between operating theatres.
When I'm done with a hard day, I like to go home, hit the old nebulizer one time, have a wank, and then strap on the CPAP before I get some shut eye.

To answer the OP, I recommend checking your resting heart rate first thing in the AM, preferably before getting out of bed. Once you have an idea about what your early AM resting HR is, you can start noticing overtraining or impending illness by elevations in your AM HR.

When I was a guinea pig for astra zeneca the alarm would go off when I slept. Think it dropped below 25. Nowadays I haven't got a clue probably 350.

So you have a lower resting heart rate than the best athletes that have ever lived?

Like I said yesterday, be like me, be a cat.
With all due respect, I'd rather be a dog. Loyalty, as misguided as it has been and may continue to be, is one of my most endearing traits.

I just realized I've never had my heart rate checked
