beat Tyron* Woodley in mma or even approach the top 5 of the UFC's welterweight division then I can confidently disregard their "eye" for mma.

Don't know what to say. He's beaten everyone they put in front of him and Dana went out of his way to discredit him so he didn't have to find out

Imo Ben would struggle against top 5 guys. He has no real way to close the distance other than diving from way out. That works on the likes of ONE fighters perhaps but guys like Woodley, Rory, Masvidal, Lawler, Thompson and more would pepper him from outside and stuff each attempted TD. Without the TD Ben has no real decent plan B or C for that matter.

There was only enough room in the UFC for one blanket and that was GSP
Everyone knew what GSP would do and still nobody could stop it. Hughes was supposed to out wrestle him, Alves was supposed to KO him, Condit was supposed to out point him, Koshcheck was supposed to out wrestle him, Shields was supposed to blind him.......

Jake shield whoop Tyrion ass, then Ben would smash it to Bolivia.

Askren is shields 2.0 with better GNP.

He'd do pretty fucking good against anyone unless they cold clock him IMO

Jake and Ben are nothing alike beside not being as good as Georges.

Shields gsp fitch and askren could have joined forces and cured the world of insomnia

But askren would have beat all them grappling and gsp could probably do enough damage standing (jabs) to beat askren on points

After how many fights?
Idk ... look it up.

I'm sure they felt that way a while... that boring fighters weren't good if the UFC's aim is entertaining fans -- which is why most people tune in to UFC fights. To see entertaining fights, not wrestling and hugging.

I couldn't care less to ever see him in the UFC. I would like to see him return to Bellator though, but I don't see that happening either.

Ben's made WAY more money outside the UFC than he would have inside. It's prize fighting, and he won.

Op-

I will go ahead and do the work for Ben Askren, but I ask you to back your point by doing the same for five top UFC ww's.

How do the UFC top five resume compare to Ben Askren's?

Ben Askren-
Respectable 69% finish ratio

Has finished ten opponents

Undefeated at 17-0

Bellator champ undefeated

World Series of Fighting undefeated

Wins over Dan Hornbuckle, Lyman Good, Nick Thompson, Jay Hieron, Douglas Lima, Andrey Koreshkov as well as 11 others.

How do your guys stack up to that? Honestly I was thinking Askren's record and accomplishments would be hard to compare, but after putting it out there I'm wondering what OP can do and am open to hearing the argument.

He'll get back to you when he's done combing through your post looking for grammatical missteps.

If you're going to do that, we should have all pointed out "Tyrone" Woodley in the OP.
A first name is not a grammar item, nonetheless, good catch, sir.

Better?

Ben's beaten guys who couldn't rise to the top of the UFC's rankings. Birdwatcher summed it up succinctly in that Askren does not have the skills to effectively close the distance on the UFC elite. I will acquiesce on Maia in that Askren at least has the best chance against him. Ultimately, if we just look at who a fighter has beaten then you could make a case for bj penn taking out anyone in the ww top 5.
