How bout this...

-If you miss weight by 3lbs or more, or you get hospitalized by your weight cut, you're forced up a division immediately.

-If you miss weight by 2lbs or less on two occasions, you're forced up a division immediately (giving everyone one allowance for 1 small fuck up).

-If you're a champ and you miss weight by any amount, you lose your title on the scales just like in boxing. Your opponent can still win the belt if he/she made weight. If the champ wins the fight, the title is immediately vacated and the ex-champ has to work their way back to a shot.

-If you're a champ and your weight cut hospitalizes you, you're automatically stripped and you're forced up a division.

I think the big thing is forcing people up a division if they end up in emergency because of a cut. Obviously you're too big for the division (or too unprofessional to be relied on to cut properly) and the UFC can't, in good conscious (lol), let you fight at that weight.

How about we just get rid of weight classes. Then we can see who the toughest truly is

There can be only one.

As long as it's the overseers making rules the fighters will continue to push the limits. The culture of the fighters will need to change over time for something substantial to happen. Guys like Frankie Edgar who fought near walk around weight need to show these division duckers that you can have success without killing yourself and risk losing a fight.

There should be MUCH stiffer consequences for missing weight. There should also be more weight classes.

I think there is room for some of these ideas. At the very least I think a champ should be stripped if they miss weight for a title defense.

I think the best thing is fighters should be evaluated at every fight & a medical professional determines the best weight to fight at from this point on.
age, muscles change things.
Leaving it up to a fighter will lead to issues.

Evaluate the fighter every fight or if a fighter is new or inactive have him evaluated before any bout agreement is signed

this is the most realistic

especially for most fighters who are their own worst enemies because of their fighting mind, always want to push things to the limit

Thanks
I think it works because fighters are already evaluated during fight week & UFC medical personel can see how healthy they are at that weight.
No real added expense
only time would be if a fighter has been out for awhile, they might need to fly them to Vegas or have a Dr. in that country check.

Hard line rules this proposed by the OP will take power away from the UFC brass and who they choose to promote. This is the only reason the UFC has not cracked down on ('popular') fighters when they miss weight.
