If you were making 100k in 2019, you need to be making closer to 160k to live the same life you did then. Prices increase 2-4x, taxes being based on a percentage then further increase the price, and so on. I just bought a new truck and about $2900 of the cost was up-front sales tax. When prices were normal that number would be closer to $2100. Basically half a mortgage payment up in flames.
