i wanna stream to my tv, like watching youtube or other flash streams.

the following hardware is at hand

1: pc computer quad core
2: tp link wireless router
3: xbox360 original
4:crt tv (not those flat ones with HDMI connection)

current setup, i use tversity to play media to my tv using my xbox, it will show up as a server and i can play most formats. pc and tv are 45 feet apart.

pc connect to the router, modem to the router and the router to the xbox.(all wired)
i am aware i am very limited because of my tv, which does not have an HDMI connection
which i think can be solved by buying this gadget:

so members, what is your advice to do this?

Pretty much all streaming options will have limitations. I have a dedicated PC connected directly to my home theater with one of these bad boys (Link). All my media is stored on that PC and networked to allow access to other devices if needed.

Another option would be to setup Kodi on your PC and stream it to your TV with a cheap computer like a Raspberry Pi or an Amazon Fire TV.

Edit: I said that kinda backwards. Host the media on an SMB share on the PC and install Kodi on the device connected to the TV.

Does your PC have an S cable out?

I used to hook up my laptop to the crt tv through just an S cable.

what kind of video card do you have? then you can see the output possibilities on it.

Yup, just set up a network folder on your PC and setup the XBOX as a recognized device.

so a cheap Raspberry with the right software would stream any flash to my tv, like youtube, live sport streams?

I used to have an ATI all in wonder video card where i could plug the tv straight to it but since you have a different set maybe this is another option:

Im assuming you are using your HDMI cable for your monitor so your VGA cable would plug into this device and then the RCA video cable would plug into your older TV. This would be using only video so your audio would still come from your computer. I think you need to plug in the adapter to the wall for power.

Its $11

If you wanted the audio to come from your television speakers too..

this is $30 bucks.

So you would hook this up to your vga port and 3.5 mm audio cable output port. PC USB seems to powers this. Then the RCA cables on this to your TV.

So just some options, I dont have xbox and stuff so maybe the other guys in this thread have a better idea on some other options that might work more efficiently.

I've used all sorts of gadgets and connected everything to everything, dating back to the RGB out on my Megadrive to streaming my phone over wifi.

My advice is to scrap the CRT and get a plasma/led. You can probably get one for $100 on eBay. It will make your life so much easier.

Transcoding flash on the fly remains sketchy in my experience. So you basically have two options...

1>Dedicated computer hooked to the TV
2>Get your computer hooked to your TV. Your distance is right about where HDMI may or may not work. If you had that gadget in your original post in the middle, it would work like a repeater and allow you to do it.

The choice is yours.
I do #1 after years of everything else. I use my xbox one (used a 360 before) for everything, but it sucks for streaming video.

Once you have a HDMI connection, you can either use HDMI cable or, if that's impractical, get a casting dongle, like Chromecast or ezcast. I use ezcast to stream from my phone to my TV

it wouldn't be possible since you dont have an HDMI input for your television.

if you had a digital television like Leigh @Leigh mentioned you could hook up the HDMI out on your PC to the HDMI in to your tv and you would be in business. Alternatively if you had an S-cable OUT on your PC (like i did) you could connect it to the S-cable IN on your TV and it work. But your TV has an RCA input.

So your option is to connect using your television's RCA IN (or component) to your computers VGA (or hdmi) OUT

unless you can work the xbox into this somehow. Seems like your current setup seems to be doing the job. Is it not able to play certain files?

do you have a blu-ray player by any chance? That could be easier for an older tv too. If you have a blu-ray player with a USB port in it. You can always put movies and things on to a flash stick and then play it in the blu-ray player. It also comes with youtube and dailymotion and netflix and stuff. Its $100.

so just another idea.

or you could get a roku or chromecast or something also.

get chromecast or something similar and avoid all the above hassle?
Doesn't work well for lots of stuff.
For several of my streaming options when casting a tab to chromecast it pays shakey and looks like shit.

oh wait yeah thats right that original product you posted seems like the best bet.

Since HDMI carries audio along with video, you dont need that 3.5mm device thing i posted before with the VGA (video only) cable.

I agree for $10 bucks seems its the best product for the job.

That will work but you're just polishing a turd. Getting a digital TV will be much better value in the long run

I prefer to run plex on my pc and use amazon fire tv/fire stick to get it to the TV. You can also load Kodi on it. By in far I think the fire tv is the best streaming device out there.

i did look into that one, a fire tv box is around 100 euro's and getting it hacked is 35 euro's, if i had that money left i would do it, but too many costs around this time due to moving into another apartment.

i might be getting a dish and an linux sat dish with ccam int he long run, with saves my on my cable package.

Bro, bro, you don't need it hacked, but if you want stuff done I'd be more than happy to do a remote session and show you how to side load apps if you went that route. Plus I don't think they are hackable right now unless you have one on old firmware. A fire tv stick is also about 66% cheaper and has the same functionality
