And yes, Ariel does have to toe a different line because journalism is his job, which actually strengthens my argument. He values the credibility of his information more than any MMA journalist I can think of. If he didn't have actual good information indicating that this is false, he has a vested interest in keeping that information to himself rather than putting a denial out there. He has no vested interest in being a PR guy for Malki and Jon, because his credibility as a journalist is more important to him long term than being liked by a couple of prominent figures in the sport.
You're admitting that these things matter when coming from a fellow fighter, so naturally you understand why Duffee shouldn't post unsubstantiated rumors of this importance because he knows that no matter what people are going to take his word for it. Look at Jon's twitter mentions right now and tell me that Todd's rumor didn't affect public opinion. That's not fair, and as a fighter he should understand that.
