You said it yourself that it's different coming from a fellow fighter. It's 100% different. Even disproven rumors affect peoples' reputations forever. This is irresponsible of Duffee. I'm sure he wouldn't appreciate it if someone was posting unsubstantiated stuff about him, especially one of his colleagues. Dirtbag move in my opinion.
different era though...there is a Snitch hotline to USADA now...I tend to believe a fighter more than a journalist
Just me though

Not this journalist.

So is Duffee saying these things "no different than anybody posting a rumor", or does it mean more by it being from a fighter? You have to choose one. If, as you posted above, you believe a fighter more than a journalist (which is crazy), you must also see how Duffee posting these things is powerful, and dangerous if they aren't true. You've kinda painted yourself into a corner here.

Send in your application...Jon may need a lawyer...you guys can sue todd for defamation and degradation of Jons Stellar reputation

You value a single sentence by ariel...I prefer to listen to the guy who has taken Peds and is in the locker room/training room....I also believe they are likely using entirely different sources

Unless Duffee is profiting from the rumor or benefitting...I see no reason why he cannot speculate...Opinions are like assholes

Ariel with press credentials and income coming in has to toe a very different line...Best not to burn bridges with fighters/managers/promotions

Just my opinion...

I'm not defending Jon. I said it myself if it's true he's done.

And yes, Ariel does have to toe a different line because journalism is his job, which actually strengthens my argument. He values the credibility of his information more than any MMA journalist I can think of. If he didn't have actual good information indicating that this is false, he has a vested interest in keeping that information to himself rather than putting a denial out there. He has no vested interest in being a PR guy for Malki and Jon, because his credibility as a journalist is more important to him long term than being liked by a couple of prominent figures in the sport.

You're admitting that these things matter when coming from a fellow fighter, so naturally you understand why Duffee shouldn't post unsubstantiated rumors of this importance because he knows that no matter what people are going to take his word for it. Look at Jon's twitter mentions right now and tell me that Todd's rumor didn't affect public opinion. That's not fair, and as a fighter he should understand that.

you reap what you sow
Jon did this to himself long ago

The fact that so many believe it may be true is a real sign how much Reputation JJ had left

I honestly hope he is clean right now and gets a chance to fight Rumble...could care less about him and DC

Pretty shitty of Duffee to do this though, no matter if it's true or not. Not his business to put stuff like that on Twitter when it's not 100% verified.

Most of the mma "media" dont have journalism degrees.. they are nothing but propagandists.

Ariel has a degree from Syracuse, which is well known as a great journalism school. I'm only speaking about him. Anybody who calls him a "propagandist" hasn't listened to his show lately. He's been criticizing the UFC in the name of the fighters constantly.

I know he does.. and he's only criticizing them because he's no longer under their pay umbrella. He was a major propagandist for them until he was fired.

Get hired by a company and then criticize them publicly and tell me how it works out for you.

Can't call yourself a journalist when you're spouting propaganda for that company.
A journalist is someone who writes articles for a company. There is nothing more to the definition. A guy who writes for the Huffington Post is not going to attack the Huffington Post in an article. The definition of journalist isn't "unconditional criticizer".

Ryann Von Doom @Ryann Von Doom for example: Ariel works for mmafighting.com. If the owners of the site were doing something that Ariel didn't find to be justified, what would be the correct course of action? To expect him to write an article about the issues with MMAFighting and post it to their website under their banner is probably not the best course of action. I can see an argument saying that he could leave the company, which I would put some merit into but I would also say that as an MMA journalist, you kind of gotta take what you're given. There aren't a lot of well-paying jobs out there, and Ariel has kids. I am not sure I'd blame him for sticking around.

I dont blame him, but I'm calling the mermaid what he was while under the zuffa banner, a propagandist.

While I disagree with the "propagandist" title, I don't blame you for seeing things this way. I don't think it's too egregious though. The guy was literally fired for being "too negative". I personally hold Ariel in pretty high regard as a journalist, as you can likely tell. Haha

Yeah, I get that. It's cool, I hold John Morgan and Crooklyn in high esteem.. the rest not so much. I get defending what your side is, but I hold this opinion on the mermaid and many many others. It isnt localized to him.

Ariel doesn't even post denials without being relatively sure about it. He does the "no truth to this" thing a lot and I've never seen him be wrong. I definitely trust him over a guy who is willing to blast this on Twitter with no confirmation.

I do agree with you that it is believable though and if it turns out to be true he deserves to have the book thrown at him hard.
he said he heard it from two sources didn't he? That doesn't sound like no confirmation. Maybe nothing from JJ or the UFC but two sources...that's not shabby

He also immediately followed up on Twitter with saying that he doesn't believe it and thinks he's being trolled... so even he thinks his sources are subject.

The thing is that people have already ran with the story and ignored his slight backtracking. That's why it's so dangerous and irresponsible that he did it. The people who don't like Jon (for mostly justified reasons) don't want to hear the doubt. They hear a "maybe" and that's all they need.

Have to wonder if the sources got to him and made him make up the trolls story. Maybe they knew they'd get shit for putting it out there. Who knows. A shame it's really believable though
