you can just grab and drop a pic right into this box. i did not know that. hmm. easy enough.

Nah, @Splinty is making some tweaks to the interface, which could be causing your problems.
If you're on your phone...go to the imgur pic you want to embed. Click it. Copy the URL (the link). Come back here, click the IMAGE button above the box you type posts in...the IMAGE button is just to the right of the smiley face. Paste the link in the box that pops up. Click submit and then Post Reply. See if that works.
Check this outImgur changed their interface recently. It used to be a bit easier to get the embed link. You need to right click the image after you upload and select "View Image" to get the direct link.

There is a list called share this image on the right of the imgur page copy the image url into the top one of those.
