My friend opened a new gym for himself a few years ago and just recently moved to a new location as his base is growing.

I've been helping him with his kids classes so I've been back in the gi and to be honest, it's a lot of fun.

Very different games and you can really dictate the pace more when using a gi.
I do enjoy using the Gi. Collar/Sleeve guard is super fun IMO

Having come up starting in the early 2000's with BJJ we did a lot of self defence.

It's been a pain in the butt learning the points game but the kids seem to like it.

BJJ is more of a sport in most places these days anyway.

Happens every time when it becomes popular. They neutered judo and karate, made hapkido kinda silly, etc..

It's funny when I am helping teach the kids classes because you can see what kids shake out where.

There's a group who are really competitive but all about the sport aspect.

There are a few kids who are very technical but not into the sport as much as they are into the art of it.

Then there are a few who are just raw energy and aggression who just wanna go.
