in my garage. Mom (or Dad, dunno)is trying to call him out. He won't leave.

What should I do? Is it true that if a human touches them, their mom (or dad, if he ain't gone already) will abandon them?

Who is that nerdy guy on here that treks through the woods dressed like Steve Irwin naming trees and shit? He probably knows.

Just leave the garage door open. They'll figure out.

male vs female birds : The male is usually more colorful.

It's mom then. And this woman has some battle scars. Her beak is fucked up. She has some bastard feathers sticking off the side. Nature is an asshole for at least not giving her pretty feathers.

But she loves her baby. She's still pleading with him to come out.

I think we closed him in here last night. :(

What kind of bird?

The "don't touch a baby bird" thing is a myth. Birds don't have a great sense of smell. I'd still leave it be though. If mama bird is around and you touch the baby, you gonna get attacked.

I've heard that the bird's sense of smell is piss poor and the human interaction has nothing to do with the abandoning of babies in the nest. If you are I Chicago though, totally different, at least with the father birds.

You can touch him (the parental abandonment thing is a myth). Make sure that there is not a nest and n the rafters of your garage that he might have fallen from, and that he is not injured. Then pick him up gently with a towel and lay him in the bushes outside. Make sure there is not a cat around.

You can touch the baby bird, as mentioned already, it's not going to hurt anything (unless you're freakishly strong).

Also, once you have a good hold of it (both hands), throw it way up in the air (I like to use underhand with birds). This accomplishes two things. First, it teaches baby bird that it's time to learn how to fly. Second, it gives the mama bird a chance to catch her baby in a warm embrace. :D

I'm pretty sure the nest isn't in my garage. She has been in the front yard for two days trying to get him to fly. He's pretty big and hasn't even tried. There may be something wrong with him. She took him into my Canna Lillies yesterday while I mowed the lawn.

He's out now. She has him in the front yard, flying off, comes back bitching, flies off again, etc.

Maybe I should try Grateful Dude @GratefulGiarc 's way.

Sounds like you have a lazy baby bird.
He will fly as soon as a cat comes sniffing around.

We have a hawk that lives at the horse ranch next door. He better learn to fly today.
go near it & start doing the chicken dance, birds learn by imitation so it probably doesn't know it has to flap its wings to fly yet. make sure to film it for the mma community dot com as well

if it doesn't work at first you may have to do some squats & maybe even some jump squats while doing the chicken dance so it understands flapping leads to liftoff, but if you keep it up it will work!
