Seems like BOTH are talking comeback not very long after their jobs for life were terminated by WME. This is a shitty situation. I hope they are both not hurting for cash after being truly at the top of the sport for a decade each and seeing all that TUF money come in. I especially don't want to see Chuck EVER fight again because his speech is already a slurred mess...

Believe it or not, everyone isnt motivated by lack of money. They are competitors still. My guess is they miss the adrenaline rush associated with fighting.

LOL

I know what you mean re: athletes in general, but both have been retired for a long time (Chuck coming up on 7 years and age 47 and Matt at over 5.5 years and age 43) and then SUDDENLY have a desire to come back and fight in short order after having WME pull the rug out from under them financially.

Coincidence?

So the timing is definitely suspect but you never know about the fine print that went along with those cushy, overpaying "jobs"... Those positions may have even had language in the offers that blocked them from fighting while in those roles or as it was likely framed, "we'll pay you to not fight."

If either of them have money problems then it's because they're dumb, especially Chuck who made a boat load of money at a time when it was even more rare than it is today.

Matt kind of laughed at the idea that he was having money troubles on the MMA Hour. He seemed to be genuine. I don't know regarding Chuck, but I completely believed Matt Hughes.

They are putting their names out there to see how much they are worth. If you were 50 and someone put a million dollars in your face to fight would you not take it? Just because they may be rich doesnt mean they dont want more money.

I personally dont want to see either of them fight again but if they do I will tune in. Bellator has made a name for themselves the last 3 years throwing huge money at guys like them.

Pretty simple really.
Dana needs snow, they need money, WME needs names, they're legacies are set.
Ees normal.

Those guys are born fighters and competitors.

I mean what are they doing now? Playing in a field with bales of hay & still training but for no date in sight?

Those two would fight for free as that's what they love, and no doubt miss.

Chuck should go to Bellator. He'd mop the floor with Bader & Mo. Hughes? I'd like to see him face a Diaz Brother.

Dude, rusty Chuck will get smoked by Bader, Mo....anyone really, and unfortunately.
Hughes wrestling pedigree and strength gives him a shot against some, but the Diaz brothers are crafty, stoned, and on missions for dough.
But I'd be cheering on both surely.

And brother, they may be competitive, but ain't no way they're taking a pro fight for free.

I would guess a combination of things. Both had guaranteed six-figure no-show jobs for life that they recently lost without warning. Both men probably budgeted their lives around that continued source of income.

It's not surprising both might be looking to come back while not feeling a whole lot of loyalty right now.

Also Matt Hughes never wanted to retire in the first place and made that clear a bunch of times, and I seriously doubt Liddell wanted to go out on five straight losses.

Bingo.. a lot of these people posting here never competed, let alone at the highest levels of anything. I'm not a fan of either, but why not let them fight a few cans to satisfy the urge to compete again?

Have a mutual friend with Chuck.
Haven't heard anything about money issues. I did post a few months back when Dana fired him he wanted to comeback. He has a good team of people around him that I think will do their best to talk him out of it or at least get a favorable matchup. When Dana fired him I was told his words were something like I'm not someone to work in an office I'm a fighter.

I'm relatively positive that the UFC won't book either of these two to fight. It'll likely be Bellator if it happens.

I agree.
I'm saying Dana's bankroll loyalty to them stopped when the Fertitta's sold.
Therefore snow> Chuck 'n Matt

I could actually see Hughes fight for the UFC though...

I can see your point, but Hughes himself said it was out of Dana's hands. Said Dana was updating him the whole time and tried to save his job. Hughes said it was the new owners' decision.

Yeah, Hughes has a lot bigger chance fighting in the UFC, but I still don't know because I don't know who they would put him against. Maybe BJ but if BJ loses to Siver I don't know if they book him again. Zero chance for Chuck in my opinion.

If BJ loses to Siver, he really oughta retire and I don't usually say things like that.

If Hughes comes back in the UFC, I'm not sure I wanna see a 4th fight with Penn, at least not right away. Maybe if Hughes wins his comeback fight and Penn wins his next two. I might be in the minority, but for a Matt Hughes return, I feel like that might actually be a good use of Sage Northcutt. Would be a huge boost if Northcutt could beat a legend, and if he can't well Northcutt's probably a bust at this point anyway.

Thanks. Good to hear he isn't belly up. Hopefully his people can convince him away from a comeback.
