Fight was close
1,2 Edwards
3,4 cowboy
5 pretty even thought Edwards landed more but cowboy controlled the round and had a takedown.
I think the right guy won the “fight” but was another situation where a draw would have been proper IMO
Well said. All things being equal, I always fall back on Pride scoring for who “won” the fight. I’m ok with someone losing the fight under the unified rules if the round scoring is clear, but in a reasonably close match, I like to see the guy who won the “fight” get the nod.

I disagree
Its only idiot fans that go off on it.

If its true, its true & explains a less than stellar performance.
He didn't take anything away from the winner, he just explained his situation.
Its a tough situation for fighters.

Like you said its completely true that being that sick will mess up your performance
and cause you to lose to a guy you would have normally beat.

Yet its also true if you point out that truth after the fight the collective MMA fanbase
will accuse you of making excuses.

The only other option is to not take the fight which will make you a default
pussy in the eyes of most of the garbage we call MMA fans

OR...

Don't say anything after the fight in which you are a default shitty fighter who got his
ass kicked against someone you shoulda beat in those same fans eyes.

You just cant win

Agreed
but that is more on the immaturity of some fans.
if it was the truth, then speak it.
never cater to the lower class that likes to be e-outraged.

I bet every single e-outraged person that gets upset over this, has been sick & blamed something on that.
Cowboy had a 25 minute fight while sick.

Nah. I think there’s enough weight classes now. If they have to add one i would say change around the weight for LHW and HW, maybe add something in there so a guy at 206 doesn’t fight a guy at 265.
There's a significant jump from 155 to 170 though, and those happen to be the most stacked weight classes in the UFC.

if it was 155, 165, 175 and then 185 we wouldn't have so many MASSIVE lightweights or reasonable size welterweights getting murked by fighters that could reasonably be competing at MW or even LHW in some cases. I don't think the bigger weight gaps need to be introduced until 185 to 205 really, because as we all know both LHW and HW are the two thinnest divisions (for male fighters)

Do you think you'd be saying there are too many weight classes if the division was already there? It wasn't that long ago that the UFC didn't even have a LW division and now it's the UFC's strongest one by far. We wouldn't have that if it was left up to you it seems.

Fair point. I probably wouldn't have brought back the LW. I certainly wouldn't have added anything less than 155. I would've left those in WEC. I think that adding more weight classes in the UFC would not change the fact that people cut weight. In some fights there could still be big weight discrepancies between the fighters in the cage. The only thing it would do is log jam more divisions because people would want to move back and forth between several weight classes. There would be far less significance to champs getting two belts. Instead, people would be trying to get 3 or 4 belts, maybe more.

definitely good points

boxing has 17 weight classes compared to men's MMA which has only 8 (at least in the UFC) yet they seem to manage ok matching up fighters, plus the weight class hopping for titles is seen as a positive promotional tool, as champion's aren't forced to fight shitty mandatories over and over because they have so many options in the other weight classes.

I know that model won't work for the UFC because they don't have multiple belts per division (besides the odd interim belt) but I still stand by my statement that there needs to be 1 more weight class between 155 and 185 ^^
