As much as people want it to be the case, Canelo vs GGG announcing September 16th doesn't necessarily stop Conor vs Floyd from happening that night. Canelo and GGG don't have a venue yet. Stephen Espinoza from Showtime already shot down the idea that Canelo and GGG would bounce Conor and Mayweather from that date. Canelo vs GGG is the better boxing fight. It's not the bigger boxing fight, and the bigger one will win 100% of the time.
This also is 100% clearly not just a publicity stunt. It's gone too far for it to be one, as it's so accepted as a fact right now that it would actually serve to hurt the credibility of Conor and the UFC if it doesn't happen. I'm not absolutely positive it's on, because negotiations in boxing are grueling and don't always pan out, but they're certainly trying to make it happen, and if they do, Canelo and Golovkin will have to pick another date.

well dana has lied to me 5000x before so i find it hard to believe anything he says. conor and floyd both talk so much bullshit that anything they say has no meaning anymore. i will believe this is actually happening when there is actual footage of both floyd and conor in real fight camp mode.if conor starts working with freddy roach and not just playing grab ass with pool noodle guy then i will believe it is going down. they had a date picked out earlier this year and it didnt happen
This isn't "they chose a date" situation. They announced the fight as signed and ready to go. If they were messing around promotionally, this wouldn't have gotten nearly this far. They also booked the T-Mobile arena for this fight.
Floyd has a really good boxer that trains at his gym. Can't remember the name. Floyd told him he has to find another gym to train at until the McGregor fight because his gym is going to be a circus. They did a conference call yesterday with Dana, Showtime and Mayweather promotions. Dana announced that they will be doing a UFC embedded and promoting the fight during their cards. Shit, even Artem told Andre Filli he can't fight him because of the preparation for this fight. I understand that Dana isn't an honest dude a lot of the time, and I also understand how they can talk about a fight just to stir up publicity, but there's no way that all of these guys would waste this much time if it wasn't real. It's clearly real, and I'm surprised that the "this is all fake" idea still exists.
