Yep. I'm supporting him because he's doing more than the cunts running their traps on the forums about him. He was respectful about MMA, treated everyone well and didn't take it lightly. He faced a legit brown belt in Mickey Gall and did far better than many of us on this forum and the others would have. Bet that stings, huh?

He came in because Zuffa snatched him up, if they hadn't Bellator would have and brought him up very slowly but gained all of those eyes that the UFC direly needs. There was no other option for him, he couldnt go to the ammy leagues even though all of you experts would like to think he could. His name was too big and because of who he was that was not an option.

Only reason they talked shit? Jealousy, pure and simple.

I would buy if I had that kind of money to spend, because I do like the guy and have always said so, but I only win mugs, not dough (except that one time because of Stipe, of course). And I just did my taxes -- it's not pretty this year.

I respect him sticking to it and knowing his place in the food chain, but no way I'd pay $65 for it

I see both sides of the situation with punk and honestly he's not hurting nothing..I would buy any ppv if its legit not just because of 1 fighter or 1 specific fight..Ppv should be worth the money regardless of punk is or isn't on it..

Yeah I was too wrapped up in the other part to mention that. Wild's acting like you'd pay 65$ just for that fight. tisk tisk.

Nah, I'm on record as saying I respect the guy. Maybe I should have stated "main card" in my OP. I just don't see how they can put him on a PPV main card again and ask people to pay $65 for it. I don't care how stacked the other fights are.

And btw this is a prime example of hate the game not the playa... anybody who trains to fight would jump in the UFC for great money and hopefully this time a more level skill level from his opponent. Bellator builds their up and comers and it's not questioned but it just seems odd that the best organization on the planet is trying to build a guy l.. but that's the gray area because ppl don't wanna have to pay to see him fight and would be cool if he was on prelims or feeder system instead. But that's where the UFC is a business and will user good drawing power for financial gain through ppv and that's the double edged sword.

I'd have had him on the FS1 or Fox cards and built him up slowly, fuck the arm chair quarterbacks.

If this Punk vs. Mayweather cage fight, which has been the source of much speculation lately, ever becomes reality then I'm sure as hell tuning in for that. But that's probably a pipe dream.

If it's Punk vs. Mike Jackson, I'm out.

Floyd better start eating a lot. Punk fights at 170lbs & doubt severely he could go lower.

You def have a valid point.... but the UFC don't care about what ppl want. It's bottom line first then whatever else happens... it's a odd situation that I dont see any compromise happening... he will get paid win or lose and it won't be on cable.

Punk won't do it alone. He needs a decent card around him, but I will likely be watching live. I estimated that Punk added 200 - 250 PPV buys to the last card he was on. I'm not sure how much of a draw he's going to be now that the initial excitement has come and gone, but I doubt he pulls as much as last time... so it's not going to be a winfall for the UFC.

That said, he is a household name & a lot of people respect his story & the effort he's putting forward with never giving up & being a drug free roll model & all that, so I think he will still bring in a lot of buyz.

Here's the thing tho, as a fan I couldn't give 2 chocolate frosted fucks about the ufcs paperview numbers.

That's their problem, they should look at putting on a card full of the best talent and matchups. It's ultimate fighting championship, not 40 year old dude with no wins championship. Don't get me wrong I will watch his journey through MMA as it's interesting, but if they insist on milking his name it should be on free tv and then use the opportunity to highlight some other names at the same time. If they do it right it will lead to more buys without tarnishing the end product

I never knew who he was before the UFC, so to me I am not invested in “C.M. Punk.” However, the story line of Phil Brooks is incredible. Even if you think he is a joke, it is pretty cool that someone who had never fought, left fame and riches to chase a dream. That being said, I would not buy a card just for him, but if the rest of the card was good and I bought it, I would root for him.

I said the same about putting him on Fox
He could do huge numbers
But it was Lorenzo that insisted they do it on PPV (first fight) & that is the deal he signed.
No idea if the second fight was tied into that deal, but UFC in Chicago is a no-brainer for him to be at for a return & second & possibly final chasnce at UFC success.

I think you actually do give a chocolate frosty f*ck or 2 about PPV numbers without realizing it... because as FrankieNYC @FrankieNYC explained in his article with Drake @Drake ... (2nd to last question in the article) people can happily go on not caring about numbers & just enjoy the fights.... but if you want to know "why" the UFC does what it does, makes some of the matches it makes & puts certain people on PPV... then the answers are in the numbers.

IOW... (Regarding Punk on a PPV) The Fox deal is a "set fee" yearly money for the UFC & there's no incentive built in for them to put someone on Fox who is capable of selling an "extra" 200k PPV by himself. You have good points about the top fighters should be the ones on the PPV cards, but someone's got to pay the billz around here. It's just business. If nothing else you get the other 4 on the PPV if you're not interested in Punk being on there.

To fix this problem... I think it would be clever for them to negotiate a "viewership incentive" into the new TV deal. IOW... the UFC gets their bulk yearly money... but if they top say 3 million viewers, they make a commission. With a model like that... you could get your wish of keeping Punk or other cash grabs off of the PPV's because there will be an incentive for the UFC to put them on a TV broadcast.
